UPDATED: Tomlin, Max Watters , Mark Harris: “Cardiff City“

UPDATED:

Birmingham deserved their 2-1 win.

Watters’ fifth goal in three U23 games wasn’t enough for the #Bluebirds.

Watters finishing :thumbright:

Mark Harris did a lot of runs, but shots way off the mark.

Lee Tomlin still not fully fit and did not create anything.

In other news, great to see Tavio d'Almeida return to the bench after an injury-ravaged start to the season. Good player :bluebird: :bluebird:

UPDATED:

Not good football today so far and Brum better team so far.

Five changes, including starts for Mark Harris & Max Watters.

Lee Tomlin starts, but NO Jordi Osei-Tuti and Big Mick really wanted Tuti to start, last time Arsenal stopped him playing??

Match played at St Andrews

Lee Tomlin is expected to start and play the full 90 mins to get him fit.

Osei-Tutu is expected to play as well, after being held back by Arsenal for the previous U23’S game.

We need both Tomlin and Tuti back ASAP for the run in as it’s going to be tough and we need every player fit especially two quality players who can make a difference :thumbright: :bluebird:

Big Mick will be monitoring how both players do, Big Mick says a fit Tomlin is a good player, but has also
Stated he needs to get fully fit and give the 110% and so far in March, Big Mick said he was a long way off that and was expected to have Tomlin back weeks ago. It’s nearly 6 months since Tomlin last played for the first team m.

Also Tuti was expected back earlier to play, but Arsenal held Tuti back.

Why can’t we play him if the City thinks he is fit enough. Can Arsenal really stop this happening?

Other clubs recall their loaned players if not sufficiently played by the loaner team.

Yes they can.

Big Mick actually said Arsenal stopped him last week playing and he really thought Tuti would be allowed tonight.
Remember Tuti is Arsenals player.

He's their player and he went back there to be treated by their medical staff when he got injured.

So they can make the decision.

Finishes 2-1.

Birmingham clearly a better team than us, so no shame in that. They had a lot of players from their first team squad playing.

Good for Watters to get another goal.

Tomlin played again but I'll be surprised if he's anywhere near the first team still.

Interesting we played with 3 trialists in the squad tonight, Annis. Thought Smithies or George Ratcliffe would have been GK.

Good for Watters as you say. Seems like a poacher. Wish we could get a 5-0 lead v Forest at ht so we could give him some first team action and rest Moore
Is Tomlin still looking fat / unfit?

Tomlin is a busted flush. You can see he still has the vision and ability but injury and fitness have caught him up. Move him on this summer now. Watters is a curious signing. There is definitely some raw talent there but his physicality and decision making for the Championship need work.

Tomlin still doesn't look fully fit and not really contributing much.

In my opinion, I can't see him being near the first team squad for a while yet. Wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't make into the match day squad this season.

Watters is taking his chances well. With him a lot will come down to whether he other things in his game. Moore is a brilliant player to have for defending set pieces, as well as his attacking qualities.

There's also a big difference between doing well in Under 23 games and being competent in the Championship.

That said, he has been on the bench recently so Mick obviously thinks he can trust him enough to be involved in the first team match day squad.

But, going by Mick's comments over recent weeks, he doesn't yet trust him enough for him to play many minutes. I think he sees more in Mark Harris, because of Harris' all-round game and ability to play behind the striker as well as being the front man.
