Curtis Nelson has recovered from his calf injury and Perry Ng is also ready for the Nottingham Forest clash on Good Friday.

With Ciaron Brown having only arrived back from the camp with Northern Ireland on Thursday morning, Nelson could slot straight back in.

Meanwhile, Arsenal loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu is finally set to return to the pitch on Tuesday in what appears to be a friendly game against Exeter.

"He has come through training this week, he trained this morning and he was fine," McCarthy added.

"He will be playing on Tuesday, we have a friendly against Exeter on Tuesday."

When asked if Osei-Tutu needed two games at under-23s level, or friendlies, before entering the first-team fold, McCarthy replied: "That's still the protocol we have got from Arsenal and he is their player, so we have got to look after him."

About Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest Football Club, often referred to as Forest, are a professional football club based in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England. Founded in 1865 Forest have played home matches at the City Ground since 1898. They currently compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

Forest have won one League title, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one FA Charity Shield, two European Cups, and one UEFA Super Cup. The club has competed in the top two tiers of English football since their admission to the Football League, with the exception of five seasons in the third tier. Their most successful period was under the management of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which included back-to-back wins in the European Cup in 1979 and 1980.

In Clough's last decade at the club, Forest won the 1989 and 1990 League Cups and were losing finalists in the 1991 FA Cup Final, before relegation from the Premier League in 1993. Upon an immediate return Forest finished third in the Premier League in 1995, before the club suffered relegation again in 1997 and, after a brief return, once more in 1999. Forest have not been back in the Premier League since.

The club's fiercest rivalry is with Derby County, with whom they contest the East Midlands derby and compete for the Brian Clough Trophy. Forest also contest the Nottingham derby with city rivals Notts County, however, as Forest have predominantly played in higher leagues than their neighbours fixtures between the two clubs have been rare in recent history.

Nottingham Forest / Team news

Boss Chris Hughton will hope to have Joe Worrall available to take on Cardiff.

The defender has missed the last three games with a cracked rib, but it was hoped he would return to action after the international break.

Winger Joe Lolley recently posted an update on Instagram saying he had undergone surgery on a hamstring injury which looks to have ended his season early.

Midfielders Fouad Bachirou (hamstring) and Harry Arter (calf) have also been on the injured list.

The dilemmas facing Chris Hughton at Nottingham Forest ahead of Cardiff on Good Friday

By George Harbey

Tuesday 30th March 2021

Nottingham Forest will be hoping to start a hectic Easter period strongly as they prepare to take on Cardiff City in South Wales on Good Friday.

The Reds have had time to recharge their batteries and gear up for their final eight league games, where they will hope to secure their Championship status for another year.

Chris Hughton’s side are winless in their last six games, but took confidence heading into the international break after a valiant second half display against Brentford, where they earned a hard-fought point at Brentford.

The task will now be for Forest to put a few more points on the board so that they can mathematically put their relegation fears to bed once and for all, starting with a trip to Cardiff on Good Friday.

With a majority of the squad having nearly a fortnight to rest and recuperate, here, we take a look at a couple of dilemmas Hughton may be facing ahead of the trip across the M5 to South Wales…

Worrall back in?

Worrall has missed the last three games through injury after he cracked a rib in the 1-0 defeat to Luton. He played against Watford a few days later unknown to the problem, but Chris Hughton has previously said that he should be back available after the international break.

Worrall will be assessed ahead of the trip to Cardiff, and a decision has to be made on whether he is fit enough to regain his place in the side.

If he is fit enough to do so, then there is a decision to be made on who misses out. Tobias Figueiredo is more likely to drop out, as the Portuguese centre-half continues to divide opinions on a weekly basis.

But Scott McKenna, who is currently on international duty with Scotland, has only just returned from an injury himself, so with two games in the space of three days, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him miss out in South Wales.

Bong or Ribeiro?

Yuri Ribeiro will be keen to prove his worth to Hughton with his contract set to run out at the end of the season.

It has been a frustrating campaign for the left-back, who has failed to replicate the form he displayed under Sabri Lamouchi last season.

He has jostled with Gaetan Bong for a place in the first-team – Hughton has a lot of trust in the latter, after he was a consistent performer for him at Brighton.

Bong endured a mixed afternoon at Brentford last time out. The first half was one to forget, as he gave away a penalty for pulling down Ivan Toney and struggled to cope with Bryan Mbeumo’s power.

But the second half saw him make a vital block to deny the Bees, and it was his cross which led to Filip Krovinovic slotting home from inside the area.

Against another promotion-chasing team in Cardiff, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bong start again, but only if he has recovered from the injury he sustained shortly after Forest’s equaliser in West London.

Nottingham Forest news: Joe Worrall facing race to be fit for Cardiff clash -

Having now gone six games without a victory, the Reds could be in for a tough afternoon at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday if they fail to produce their very best as the Bluebirds will be brimming with confidence following their recent win over arch-rivals Swansea City.

Whereas the likes of Filip Krovinovic, Brice Samba and Cyrus Christie are all likely to feature for Forest against Cardiff, defender Joe Worrall is facing a race to be fit for the fixture.

Forced to watch on from the sidelines in recent weeks after sustaining a rib injury during the club's 1-0 defeat to Watford, the 24-year-old has only been able to make a limited return to training.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post about Worrall's chances of featuring in tomorrow's clash, Forest manager Chris Hughton said: "At this moment, he's been able to come out onto the training pitch but is a little bit limited in what he can do.

Lee Tomlin one start this season for the Bluebirds and 50 in three and a half years.

Mick McCarthy:

Lee Tomlin rocked his ankle

prior to the under-23s game. It’s nothing major.

"He was due that other game in the under-23s. It’s sod’s law, in the warm-up he stood on one of our other player’s ankles and it wasn't the other player who got injured - it was him.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are sweating on the fitness of Joe Worrall. The defender has been out since the start of March following a cracked rib.

Fouad Bachirou is fit again after a hamstring problem, while Forest continue to be without former Bluebirds loanee Harry Arter (calf).

Defender Gaetan Bong came off with a knock in their last game, against Brentford, and is a doubt.

Joe Lolley, meanwhile, is out for the season with a hamstring injury.
