' JORDI OSEI_TUI '
Jordi Osei-Tutu was omitted from the match-day squad once again on Tuesday, the reason for his absence is as yet unknown, but it was heartening that much of the talk after the match was about the return of Ryan Reynolds, the City full-back who had been missing for some time owing to injury.
Jordi went back to Arsenal for a couple of months to have his injury mended and recover, Jordi returned a couple of weeks ago to Cardiff City was expected then to play for the U23'S but Arsenal stopped him, not playing again yesterday is a mystery?
Whereas these under-23s games were of great interest to supporters to see how stars such as Osei-Tutu or Tomlin were getting on in their recovery, there seems to be a real buzz around the potential stars of tomorrow. The focus now zeroes in on them rather than the first-teamers dropping down to the age-group sides.
' LEE TOMLIN '
Lee Tomlin has also now missed two U23 games in the last few weeks and Mick McCarthy was hoping Tomlin would of been fit enough for the first team back in February, its now been 6 months since Tomlin last played for the first team and only 1 start this whole season to his name.
The talk at the start of the game was just why Lee Tomlin didn't emerge after being named on the team sheet just minutes earlier.
There were hypotheses and theories being bandied about, the reason he didn't play is still unknown as yet, but City's young stars made sure he wasn't the talk of the town for long.
Mick McCarthy's senior side have eight games left to play in this campaign. In reality, with so much on the line, neither Colwill nor Tomlin will have a big part to play in that, especially in light of the latter's mystery absence on Tuesday.
But it has thrown up the question; who will have a bigger part to play next term?
While Tomlin's talent is unquestioned, it appears manager McCarthy is unconvinced that he is at the peak of his fitness just yet, which is what is needed for Cardiff's high-intensity game, "Tomlin is way off the fitness,that i expect from my players" said McCarthy.
Quite what happens with him this summer is a big question, however some believe Tuesday's display is just the latest signifier that the torch is being passed to the hugely-talented Colwill.
Contrast that with how often Tomlin has been afforded a chance in the squad in that time and it might go some way to informing you of McCarthy's thinking.
