“ Mick McCarthy looks ahead “

Mon Apr 12, 2021 8:06 am

Mick McCarthy looks ahead towards the final five matches of the 2020/21 campaign, and spoke of his excitement regarding the future return of supporters to Cardiff City Stadium.

MICK McCARTHY:

“We certainly want to win the next five games and get points, but we’ll also be having an eye on what is happening next season. We’re always evaluating and calculating on what we need and who is not going to be here.”

“Having lost Joe Bennett, Joel Bagan and Sean Morrison, that doesn’t help. All the lads who have come in have all done well, they’ve all acquitted themselves well. But we definitely need our best team out, and we need to be fully at it.”

He concluded: “Everybody in football is missing the fans, not only us. But having a home crowd makes a difference, especially when you’ve got fans like ours; a partisan group who make noise and support their team. Everybody wants their fans back, and we’re no different.”

If we win the last 5 games, we end up on 74 points. No way will that get us in the top 6.

We need to be planning now for the summer. Identifying realistic transfer targets and speaking to their agents. Any contracts due for renewal that need renewing (not many I would think) should get done before the end of the season. Contracts for players we are not going to use next season we should look into paying up so they can go.
