Watford Target Kadeem Harris Reluctant To Sign New Sheffield Wednesday Contract

With only six matches left in the season, Sheffield Wednesday sit in the relegation zone by seven points. Although their form improved once Darren Moore took charge, including a 5-0 thumping of Cardiff City, relegation to League One appears more likely than not. With relegation will come an exodus of players. One such name likely to leave is Watford transfer target Kadeem Harris, who is still unable to commit to an Owls’ contract extension.

Kadeem Harris Underwhelming In Attack This Season

Although the season has been tough for Sheffield Wednesday from the start, with a points-deduction sweeping their legs from beneath them before the season began, Harris has not been at his best statistically for a wide midfielder. Admittedly, he usually finds himself in a harder-to-provide-from right-wing-back role. Still, no goals and three assists from 33 appearances is not impressively noteworthy.

Recent matches have seen players such as Liam Palmer given opportunities in the position, and he performed well. Harris’s lack of goal contributions likely comes from the fact his most preferred right-midfield role was rarely available this season.

The versatile player with decent defensive acumen scored four times and notched three assists last season while making 13 appearances for Cardiff City in the season prior. Whichever club brings in Harris will have an adaptable player who can fill in many roles – but goalscoring and creating chances has not been in abundance as of late.

The 27-year-old’s contract runs down at the season’s conclusion. While still unsure of what tier his club will be in next season, he is unable to complete contract negotiations.

He recently told Yorkshire Live: “There has not been an update really. We are still in the same position…The main focus for everyone right now is staying in the Championship, myself included.”

Watford Transfer Target Wanted By Host Of Championship Clubs

According to the Telegraph, via Yorkshire Live, Middlesbrough, Watford, Reading, and Stoke City are vying for his signature. Unless a contract extension is secured, the 27-year-old would swap teams for free. However, Middlesbrough may have an advantage as Neil Warnock managed Harris when at Cardiff City.

When asked about the rumours, Harris did not deny them, saying: “You hear a lot of things and rumours about clubs being interested in you when you are a free agent. All I am focused on is staying in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday. That is all that has been on my mind.”

On 13 July 2019, it was announced that Harris had signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer from Cardiff City.

Always thought we were right to get rid of him and those stats of 33 games, 3 assists and no goals seem to back that up.

Not particularly impressive, tends to have a couple of good games and then 10-15 poor ones.

As for the other clubs interested "Middlesbrough, Watford, Reading, and Stoke City", then dream on. From memory his agent (possibly his father ?) had an over inflated view of both his worth and ability and this strikes me as just a way of boosting interest. The only one of those teams that might happen would be Stoke as most of their squad appear to be coming to the end of their contracts :o
