The UK Government are looking into whether there is a way they can stop this league going ahead.

European Super League will start THIS summer.

FIFA have said all European Super League players will be banned from playing at the 2022 World Cup.

UEFA have said all 12 teams will be excluded from next season's Champions League and Europa League.

BREAKING NEWS

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham are among 12 clubs who have agreed to join a new European Super League.

In a seismic move for European football, the Premier League clubs will join Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Uefa and the Premier League condemned the move when news of it broke on Sunday.

Sky News

Six English teams are expected to be part of plans for a breakaway European super league, with an announcement due tonight, Sky News understands.

Among the English clubs involved are Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The project has been launched to rival UEFA's Champions League format which currently dominates European football.

Sky News' City editor Mark Kleinman said: "My understanding is that 12 clubs from across Europe including the six biggest English clubs have now signed up to this new format.

"The others include Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid."

The developments come as UEFA itself was due to sign off on its own plans for an expanded and restructured Champions League on Monday.

Kleinman said of the breakaway competition: "The new league includes staggering sums of money that will be handed to the participating clubs. About $6bn has been committed to this new project by the American bank JP Morgan.

"And this will come after European clubs' finances have been hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic which is one of the reasons why so many of Europe's biggest clubs have decided that now is the right time to form a European super league after years of on/off discussions about such a project."

The Premier League's chief executive Richard Masters has written to all 20 of the league's clubs in England to state its opposition to the new project.

Mr Masters told the 20 that "this venture cannot be launched without English clubs and we call upon any club contemplating associating themselves or joining this venture to walk away immediately before irreparable damage is done".

Mr Masters goes on to say in the memo: "We do not and cannot support such a concept.

"Premier League rules contain a commitment amongst clubs to remain within the football pyramid and forbid any clubs from entering competitions beyond those listed in Rule L9, without Premier League board permission.

"I cannot envisage any scenario where such permission would be granted."

The move to create a rival league is being seen by some in football as a surprise after the European Club Association (ECA), which represents 246 of the continent's leading clubs, gave their backing to UEFA's reforms.

UEFA has proposed an increase to 36 from 32 teams in the Champions League, and an overhaul of the group stage into a single table rather than the current groups of four clubs.

Teams would play 10 matches each in the group stage rather than the six they currently play and a playoff round would also be introduced before the last 16.

There have been reports of a plan for a breakaway league for a number of years and the speculation returned in January with several media reports that a document had been produced outlining the plans for a 20-team league.

Those reports led FIFA and UEFA to warn they would ban any players involved in a breakaway from playing in the World Cup or European Championship.

UEFA:

UEFA, the English Football Association and the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A have learned that a few English, Spanish and Italian clubs may be planning to announce their creation of a closed, so-called Super League.

If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we – UEFA, the English FA, RFEF, FIGC, the Premier League, LaLiga, Lega Serie A, but also FIFA and all our member associations - will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever.

We will consider all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and sporting in order to prevent this happening. Football is based on open competitions and sporting merit; it cannot be any other way.

As previously announced by FIFA and the six Federations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.

We thank those clubs in other countries, especially the French and German clubs, who have refused to sign up to this. We call on all lovers of football, supporters and politicians, to join us in fighting against such a project if it were to be announced. This persistent self-interest of a few has been going on for too long. Enough is enough.

Action speaks louder than words from both fifa and premier league so let's see if got the balls to sanction the clubs involved? The integrity of premier league will be smashed by having 6 clubs with untold riches buying every decent player at will and will turn premier league into a closed shop of these 6 clubs.

Sounds like UEFA, Premier League, La Liga and Serie A are adamant they will kick teams out of their leagues who take part in this - which they are well within their rights to do.

This will kill football as a competition both in the (few) countries involved and in Europe as a whole...

I heard Pep Guardiola refer too football as a 'business' before the Champions League game last week and it seems it's true...

I don't believe the Premier League will have any real power to stop the selfish few; but there is a certain irony in there after the way they themselves treated the FA back in the 1990's

They say that what goes around comes around and this may be thecwheel turning its full circle

This is not not good for European 'competition', not good for the Premier League/EFL; and ultimately devastating for all but the suppor5ets of the clubs involved

If/when this is announced, it will be the first toll of a very sad bell...

Do the clubs actually care? With a garaunteed income far in access of what they can earn through champions league or domestic league they can afford to charge peanuts for fans to support cub so keeping fans onboard...personally wouldn't want watch same teams every couple weeks!

Gary Neville is commentating on Manchester United v Burnley for Sky Sports at the moment, and has just said:

"It's an absolute scandal. Any clubs that have agreed to it should be ashamed of themselves.

Are Arsenal in the league? They've just drawn to Fulham. United aren't beating Burnley.

I can't concentrate on this game. The 6 English clubs should have points docked from them this season. It's an absolute joke."

Wheres all the money coming from ?

I haven't got a clue about the champions league as i haven't got BT

Will sky want to fund it as it will massively drive up subscriptions and probably lose more than it gains or go PPV which doesn't have to be sky.

Lets be honest, it is very easy to get dodgy feeds on the internet if you so desperately want to watch it.

Its going abroad guys. Man U vs Barca in Dubai, Qatar or Shanghai....

Good Fcuk off and let us carry on without them

His co-commentator, Martin Tyler, has said:

"My first thoughts is this comes down to two 'Gs'.

The first is guaranteeing money in a sport where you have to earn the money of playing in the top competitions by qualifying.

The second is greed."

Being supported by a massive banking group to tune of £6billion I think was quoted .... one thing stopping them at moment us premier league needs to give permission for clubs to join and that will not be given under any circumstances! Only thing left would be for Cubs to resign from premier league... but the players from these clubs would probably be banned from playing for their countries if fifa and UEFA get their way.

We wish! Doesn't say if and when it will start but reading what fifa UEFA FA premier league are saying it wont get off ground ? But can be sure there is an anterior motive for this announcement now! Remembering UEFA ste set to announce champions league restructuring tomorrow.

Those clubs have more or less dominated English football for 100 years if they fcked off maybe the others would have a chance.

I wonder how many of the fans of these clubs actually want something like this. I imagine quite a large number would be against such a move.

Obviously as the biggest if not the best club in Wales we will be invited to join. It will be much more glamorous playing the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus rather than Sheffield Wednsdy and Reading. And think of the away trips to Rome and Barcelona rather than Rotherham and Gillingham. I for one can't wait for it to start.

Re: " European Super League to be announced tonight "

Sun Apr 18, 2021 5:15 pm

Kick them out of all british competitions, they will soon come back begging to be let in.
The fans will not be interested in in just this competition.

Relegate Liverpool, Man Utd And Arsenal.
These so called top 6 teams think they own the league because of there cash flow.
I don't care what happens but if the top 6 teams have signed that contract for the super league,
then kick them out of the premier league tonight. It's so poor from them because not only we supporters
dont matter to them, not only because we are still in the season but because we are currently in a pandemic where
businesses have been lost, teams been struggling and most of all everyone has been suffering.

It's the most disgraceful movement in the Premier League history.
The announcement expected 9:30pm tonight

Re: " European Super League to be announced tonight "

I can't wait....Do it !!!!

resign from the premier league, watch the "super league" crash and these billionaires lose billions......

The top 6 clubs will still be there, their current shell company will go bust, banks will lose a ton and 6 newco's will be formed and they'll be inserted a some point high in the pyramid.

This was the inevitable result of the influx of foreign owners, especially the Septics

US major league sport works on a franchise and non-relegation basis, and that’s the ultimate aim here.

Note, Major League Baseball is the only US sport that doesn’t operate a salary cap….. so it’ll be only the very top players who’ll gain out of this. It’s all about the owners and protecting their “investment”.

…… and no relegation = no promotion.
So the next step will be “nursery” or “feeder” teams.

What greedy b*st*rds
