Slotting home in the warm-up
There were a couple of players trying to make an impression during the warm-up, hoping to be called upon during the match.
It was notable that both Jonny Williams and Max Watters were probably the most accurate of the players during the pre-match shooting drill.
In fact, Williams and Watters both slotted lovely chances before the game, which would have caught the eye of the coaches no doubt.
A striker seems to be high on McCarthy's transfer wishlist, with the Bluebirds boss making little secret of his desire to help ease the burden of responsibility resting on the broad shoulders of Moore.
Interestingly, when the Wales international was forced off, McCarthy declined to call on Watters, which perhaps suggests there is still some work to do before his Cardiff career really takes off.
Whether he will be handed a proper chance to shine in City's final three games remains to be seen, but keeping up that level of sharpness in training will surely do him no harm..
Meanwhile, Williams will similarly be hoping he can continue to catch the eye, with his short-term contract up at the end of the season.
