Cardiff City host Rotherham United in a 12:30pm kick-off at CCS, with the Millers still in with a chance of Sky Bet Championship survival on final day.

MICK McCARTHY:

“Having their Championship status riding on this game is a huge thing and they’ve managed to get themselves into that position,” began Mick.

“I know they had lots of games in hand, but then they still had to play six or seven games in two weeks. They’ve given themselves a chance. I watched their games against Brentford and Luton the other night where they played well and they are fighting tooth and nail, so yes: there is something riding on this one.

“Paul Warne’s teams give everything anyway, just like us. We’re not going out to show everybody how to play a wonderful game of football – we’re going out to win it.

“Warney’s teams have been great and I really like Paul. But as much as I like him, we’ll go tooth and nail to win the game as well.”

City were just six points above the relegation places the last time the two sides met, as a dramatic victory at the New York Stadium helped continue what would become an 11-match unbeaten run.

Mick reflected on that start to life with the Bluebirds, as he eyed a strong finish to his first season in the Welsh capital.

“We beat them there on a really snowy, wild evening,” he continued. “We’d had a great run and went on to have a fabulous run since then.

“You just have to get points, win games, get people onside and create a good team spirit. Quite clearly we’ve done that, myself and TC, since we’ve come in.

“We’ve loved every minute of it, by the way. It’s been great. The only sad thing is that we’ve not had fans in, because maybe we could have done even better with them.”
