A virus doesn't want to kill its host. It mutates to become more contagious... but less virulent

There’ll still be infections but serious illness / hospitalisation / mortality rate will continue to fall with the rise in vaccination rates.
The only reason that Bolton etc has been affected by the variant is that it has a high rate of people NOT vaccinated.
