“ So Goodbye Joe Bennett? “

Fri May 21, 2021 12:06 pm

Joe Bennett after 5 years has earlier this week moved out of his in Cowbridge with his wife and it’s gone up for sale empty.

Bennet has been in talks with City since his operation and is expected to be fit by September.
Reports say he was offered a low one year contract ???

Have we seen the last of a very good player Joe Bennett??

Some of his tackles were horrendous, poor distribution sometimes.. average imo, but steady and hard working.
Good luck to him..

It was reported he wanted same deal he was on before injury? He is 32 and has had a big injury, I dont think any player can expect that, one because nobody knows how he will be after such injury, and two, times have changed financially due to covid, plus no parachute payments!

Has been a great servant to the club, but we cannot be held to ransom. If he does leave, then good luck to him in the future, and thanks for 5 years service (quite a rarity in modern era)

Be interesting to see where he moves to, at his age he needs to be playing and not moving for the money.
Good player but at 32 ,currently injured so time to move on.
Good luck tho Joe, now onto a new LB with Bagan as support.

What clubs are near Surrey with short travelling time to them?

Loads. All the London based clubs, Reading and the South Coast clubs are near Surrey.

So how does a player pass a medical whilst currently injured? Especially an ACL

He will have to wait until he’s recovered before signing for another club.

Good championship defender but not irreplaceable.
If he’s (agent) asking for more money then the club are absolutely right to durn him down.
We have to tighten our belts.

Good player and good servant, but at 32 and currently injured he was never going to get a lucrative long term contract

Would like Bagan to be given the shirt to start the season, he’s the long term successor to Bennett

I liked the guy. Not the greatest player to wear the shirt but will be remembered.

Tbh, I was quite critical of him constantly leaving us exposed when he steamed forward and consistently lost possession. However we were on fire before his injury and really struggled to fill the gap he left. We had a really poor run due to this. I believe he is worth a decent extension. We will struggle again without him.

Well worth remembering when most of the country were at home with -20% of thier pay.
None of the players took a reduction in pay, they all deferred 25% of their pay.
Joe has been handsomely paid for his time with us , refused the offer of a new reduced contract, despite the club losing its parachute payments, no income from the fans etc and currently suffering from a major injury.
We need players who want to play for the club.
Rant over :-)

Well said...? :?

So, as many people did, Joe Bennett and his team mates (most of whom remain at the club) escaped furlough because their jobs were in the right sector? :?

The rights and wrongs of any footballer/sportsperson/high earner not taking a genuine pay cut and/or donating parts of their salary to charity (my understanding is that Joe did and did so both willingly and generously) are a debate in themselves but to write that above is rather churlish IMHO

So which of us would take a substantial pay-drop for doing essentially the same job in the same conditions when the company up the road are offering more for the same output? :?

Very few, I am sure, despite the undoubted odd protestation to the contrary...

The guy did his job (again open to debate how well), earned the money in his mutually agreed contract and has decided the time is right to move on; his prerogative, as it was the club's to offer him less under the circumstances

It seems (and I use the word again) churlish to wish Joe and his family anything but all the very best in his future life and career

Good luck, Joe... :ayatollah:

indeed...should have stayed at home... been the only one to take a pay cut... accepted a contract 3 years ago for less than offered.. not run so hard to not get injured and maybe should have taken one of those offers he has previously turned down....
