Wigan Athletic are reportedly closing in on a move for Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke - blowing the likes of Cardiff City out of the water.

The striker, who's currently a free agent, has already reportedly held talks with the Bluebirds and the Scottish giants this summer, but now appears to be on the brink of a move to the Latics.
Wigan are able to offer the striker more money and seem to have come through their financial bad times.
According to Sky Sports, the 28-year old is in Wigan to complete a medical and other formalities ahead of his move.
A stay at Sunderland, following their failure to gain promotion from League One, always seemed unlikely, and the player himself has already posted a farewell message to fans on Wearside.
Speaking on his Instagram account, Wyke said: “Thank you to the Sunderland fans who supported me from day one & good luck for the future.”

Surely paper talk unless KM is on his way.

Probably more paper talk nonsense but let's just assume for a second that it's accurate.
"Wigan are able to offer the striker more money..."
Now if that means we are "unwilling" to offer more money then fair enough but if it means we are "unable" to offer more than a club in League 1 who have had serious financial problems in the recent past then that is quite a thing.

I believe the wage cap was legally challenged back in April and has now been removed
