“ Freed up space for more signings “

In terms of outgoings, well Cardiff let Sol Bamba, Junior Hoilett, Glatzel and Bennett leave this summer. All of them were on on some of the highest wages and it has freed up some space within the squad, which has been quickly filled by the three new arrivals on much much lower wages.

The last three years Cardiff have managed to cut their wage bill considerably.

The entire transfer windows depends on what happens to £20million valued Kieffer Moore, if he is sold, then part of the money will be spent, if not then City will sign free agents and loan players.

Williams and goalkeeper Joe Day also departed, too, so there is some wiggle room within the squad.

The players brought in on less than half the wages of the players that of left.

There are two areas of the squad which could perhaps do with some streamlining, though. The striker stable, for example, is heavily stocked and needs some serious slimming down.

Max Watters seemed to be out of favour under McCarthy and it would be no surprise if he left on loan this summer.

Reports in Peterborough, however, claim Cardiff are ready to cut their losses with the striker, who joined only in January, and newly-promoted Posh are ready to table a bid.

Similarly, too, there seems to be scope for Mark Harris to go out on loan, with Crewe having been linked with a move for him. Given Collins has come in as a more senior striker, opportunities for both Harris and Watters will seemingly be reduced.

Isaac Vassell and youngster Isaak Davies are considered first-team options in pre-season, too, so it will be interesting to monitor their involvement in the games over the coming weeks.

Gavin Whyte also appears to be nudging closer to the exit door. Both Hull City and his former club Oxford United are linked with moves for the Northern Ireland international and it would be no surprise to see him depart.

While Whyte divides opinion, there is no doubt he is a talent. But with Perry Ng and Tom Sang both excellent wing-back options, game-time for the winger looks to be thin on the ground moving forward and he may have to look elsewhere if he is to continue progressing.

In midfield, there seems to be an imbalance now. There are five senior central midfield players, with two or three promising youngsters trying to break through, and just two spots in the side.

Marlon Pack, Joe Ralls, Will Vaulks, Bacuna and Wintle are all battling for two spots, is that the right balance? Does one need to leave? There has been some interest in Vaulks and Ralls, but both of those have gone cold of late.

But it wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility to see one of those four - Wintle aside - leave this summer.

Then, the big one. The one this entire transfer window hinges on: Kieffer Moore.

The Wales striker banged in 20 goals last term and has shot to prominence with the national team, too.

There have been whispers that Burnley could express an interest, while one club overseas is thought to have taken a look at him, however nothing formal has been put in front of Cardiff's top brass over a move just yet.

It's still early days in this window, though, and once the transfer domino effect takes place in the Premier League and the money starts exchanging hands, that's when we might see a club come in for Moore.

Cardiff are desperate to keep hold of him, though, and as such will demand a lofty fee if they are indeed to let him leave. But the transfer fee would have to be significant enough for McCarthy to reinvest in his squad with some quality transfers.

There is no doubt about it, if Moore departs it would change the whole dynamic of City's transfer window.

We need two wingers amd a play making midfielder and I think we will have a competitive squad

Losing KM and 20 goals could be catastrophic.
One hell of a gamble by the board especially if Collins is his replacement

Watters looks like he is off to Milton Keynes. If so what a waste of business that was.

If its a loan I think its a good move. Hes not going to get game time here next season and now well get the chance to see how he does in league 1. If its a permanent move then I agree, massive waste of time..

It's a loan move.
