Neil Warnock invites Sol Bamba to Middlesbrough as he confirms ex-Cardiff City star has moved back to Leeds



The former Cardiff City defender was released upon the end of his contract this summer and moved back up north.

Bamba was supposedly to become part of the City coaching team, but that did not materialise.

Neil Warnock has offered Sol Bamba the chance to train with Middlesbrough following his release from Cardiff City.

The 36-year-old came on for the final few seconds of Cardiff's final game of the season against Rotherham United, having recovered from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer.


It turned out to be his final appearance in a City shirt, five years after Warnock had brought him to the Welsh capital as a free agent.

Bamba left the club a legend, not only for what he did in helping the club achieve promotion, but for his exploits off the pitch, too.

Supporters were understandably disappointed to see the Ivorian leave, however the defender, who has moved back up north to Leeds where he once played, was insistent on playing again.

And while Warnock has not offered Bamba a playing contract, he has said he will welcome him to the club's Rockliffe training ground as the player looks to get back to full fitness.

No surprise there but a little disappointed our club didn't have a little more foresight...

I doubt whether even Warnock will give Sol a playing contract, but I wish him all the best!

seeing and knowing are two different things.

Many, many, many on this site were adamant that Bamba, Hoilett and Bennett wouldn’t be released on frees hmm.

Next time you see something coming give us the nod and not join it after the news.

Sols moved house, and ex Manager is allowing him to train there for free.

I don't think he will play again, but hopefully he can get some start as a coach up North somewhere, good luck Sol.

Some people going on about giving sol a coaching job but If we give a coaching contract to all our ex players we would have 100s of coaches,

Wez I think you’ll find Sol to be a bit different than most of our ex players.
His knowledge and personality alone would be great for the club in my opinion

fully understand why people have suggested this... but it seems he still wants to play ..and tbh nobody has any idea how he will take to coaching as he hasnt done any apart from a few sessions last year which i assume was part of getting one of his badges...

didnt they ?
he has said umpteen times he would like to continue playing and is still saying it.

Bellamy,Leggy,Gabidon and Young were all top players for us but none have them have made it as a Manager as yet!
