Postby WestCoastBlue » Wed Jul 21, 2021 6:59 pm

The FA are investigating racism allegations at Cardiff City in to staff and other players.

A youth player has told the investigation his own team-mates abused him and rubbed bananas into his clothes.

Don’t suppose anyone has some info on this? Is it related to the bullying claims from previously?

FA investigating racist abuse at Cardiff City after child allegedly had bananas rubbed into kit by team-mates.

The Football Association is investigating after a child alleged that he had been subjected to bullying and discriminatory abuse in Cardiff City’s academy.

The Athletic can reveal that a young footballer, aged below 14, has alleged that instances of racism took place on a minibus while travelling to an away match. The child has told an FA investigation that his own team-mates are the alleged perpetrators. The young boy himself gave evidence to the FA investigators over a Zoom call.

The child, who is no longer training with the academy after becoming unhappy in the environment, is of Middle Eastern heritage. He told FA investigators that he heard monkey noises and that team-mates also rubbed bananas into his clothes. The FA investigators also heard alleged that staff failed to respond in a satisfactory manner and clamp down on the

How can you jump to this conclusion?

For the FA to be involved, it’s clearly serious.

Because it's happened before a young kid didn't make grade and club staff inc Bellamy was accused of bullying ect.... the kid in this story is under 14 and no longer at club...Also look at the website of this publication and it reveals nothing other than what the headline states and where else is this story being highlighted...? It apparently happened in December and according to this story it involved his team mates and club being investigated for not going enough to investigate incident... so suspect part of same story involving Bellamy and others last year. Anyway it will come out in wash if it is being investigated now.

Racism allegation - The Athletic

The FA investigators also heard alleged that staff failed to respond in a satisfactory manner and clamp down on the abuse. Indeed, it is claimed the alleged victim was told to get on with it and clean it up himself by a staff member who first heard the complaint at the time. The young player and his family are being supported by the anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out.

The player has currently dropped out of the club’s academy and returned to grassroots football, although he does sometimes train at satellite facilities owned by the club.

In a statement to The Athletic on Wednesday evening, a Cardiff City director said: “We can confirm that we are aware a complaint has been made to the FA regarding an alleged instance of racist behaviour and bullying between children whom were enrolled in the Club’s academy.”

The club confirmed that the allegations date back to events in 2018 but argue that the claims around racism have only surfaced in recent months. The club say they were aware of complaints about the player’s treatment in their academy but insist that “no staff or coaches were involved.”

Following the player’s initial complaints, the director says that the club’s academy and education department “thoroughly investigated the matter at the time.” The Cardiff director added: “A meeting was convened with all the players from the group and their parents/guardians at which point the Club’s code of practice and standards were reiterated. This was followed by an educational presentation.”

Now, however, the child and his guardians have escalated the complaint by reporting allegations of racism, as well the aforementioned alleged bullying, to the FA.

There is also understood to be a dispute between the player’s family and the club over his right to register at a different club after leaving Cardiff. In accordance with Football League regulations, Cardiff are alleged to be insisting on compensation payments for any players who leave in his youth age group to sign for different clubs. The guardians in question believe Cardiff should waive the right to compensation as the club is alleged to have failed to provide a safe environment for their child.

The Cardiff director continued: “No complaint of discrimination was raised by the player or his guardians at the time. The complaint has been made by the player’s guardians to the FA nearly three years after the event and following a meeting with the club at which the club confirmed it would agree to release the player and that it would not relinquish its entitlement to training compensation should the player wish to join another club.”

Cardiff say they are prepared to “engage” with any club who wishes to sign the player but also claim the player’s guardians said previously that they did not wish to re-enter elite football until the player turns 16.

The Cardiff academy has been beset by issues in recent years. A Cardiff statement in March revealed the club had launched “a comprehensive investigation into non-recent allegations of bullying and poor practice relating to the club’s academy”. This step preceded the allegations of racism that can now be reported.

In March, the Daily Mail newspaper reported that the club’s academy manager James McCarthy had been one of those suspended as the club confirmed two staff members had been stood down while the internal process was carried out. The club’s safeguarding officer Rob Cronick, a former detective chief inspector with South Wales Police, is tasked with conducting a second investigation, over which the FA and EFL retain a level of oversight. This is separate to the FA’s investigation into the allegations of racism.

Cardiff’s academy had previously been criticised when former Wales captain and Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy stepped down from his position as their under-18s coach in January 2019. The club had investigated a bullying claim against Bellamy and others. Bellamy denied the allegations made against him. The club’s investigation flagged “a number of significant concerns” and concluded that academy players faced an “unacceptable coaching environment” at the club. The club’s findings did not name individual staff members in its conclusions.

The FA is unable to officially comment on the details while an investigation is ongoing.

Really sad that something like this has been allowed to happen again. Hope that the club did more than is being let on and actually disciplined the kids involved in this.

Concerning that stories like this don’t seem to go away either. At a time we should be proud of the kids coming out of the academy, stories like this will put future talent off signing for us

Is it? It's an allegation that has yet to be proved

Let's see what develops before making barrack room statements, shall we?

I refer to the still unproven (so innocent in the eyes of the Law but maybe not the Lawyers on here) Craig Bellamy situation

Time will tell and then aporopriate comment can be made :thumbright:

This is going back 3 yrs now call me a cinic but at 1st its bullying and it's to do with under 13 players involved..... now the most popular cry today is racism so let's try racist
card, This story as strikingly similarities to others that were investigated in fact the parents dont agree with the club about things.... upto now as anything been proved in any of previous cases? Unfortunately club as nowhere to go as football gone into hysterical outrage at mere mention of racism, the club will be dragged through the mud to please the organisations that benefit from such cases..... who would be a coach at an academy in these circumstances to frightened to reject a youngster because may get accused of something by parents who are angry their kid wont become a rich footballer? What musnt forget the academy as changed staff several times so not same people involved...anyway this will probably go way of other investigations nothing proved and club told to bolster their safekeeping and racism protocols at academy.

No you are not a cynic, you are a realist. Are we expected to believe that at a club with many black players in it from first team down to kids level, that someone rubbed bananas in a black kids clothes. And if it did happen it would have been the action of one spiteful kid who probably wouldnt have dreamt of doing it years ago but now due to the hysteria surrounding racism in the game, saw it as a way of getting to the black lad.

The thing us hes not even black he is of middle east origin ! And it's not about the club staff its about a supposedly under 13 player doing something 3 yrs ago? Like said racism is a golden egg for some organisations and people to use but for their own ends..... this lad wasn't going to make it that looks like the problem and like he other cases the parents didn't agree so their golden egg was broken and their little " person " wasn't going to be a millionaire by time was 20... that's the cinic in me .. as you said what about all the other bame kids gone through academy presume their parents accept their child is not good enough and move on but for others they simply cannot accept the clubs decision..... is this going to end up with a child of 14 at time being branded a racist? :o
Just got to question why after all this time it's being brought to the surface?

they are separate incidents...involving different boys, coaches, age groups...
significant concerns relating to an unacceptable coaching environment.... and a lack of effective safeguarding is what the club said the investigation showed... not sure if you would consider that proof but its certainly an admission from the club thats things were not right...

What did you expect club to say anything other than accepting something was wrong with their protocols they would be accused of sweeping it under he carpet? Thus particular case involves 10yr olds ffs and club staff are not under investigation but to provide evidence regarding interaction between the youngsters if required? Racism is an easy tool to use if your are BAME and want to get attention as plenty of organisations dying to help you and who love to attack football given chance.

Racism probe as 'bananas thrown at Cardiff City academy players'

By Kate Morgan
BBC Wales News

The family of a child who said he faced racist bullying at Cardiff City academy have accused the club of not taking the allegations seriously enough.

The boy, whose father is Arabian, said the worst incident was having bananas thrown at him and a black friend on a youth team minibus.

The Football Association is understood to be probing discriminatory behaviour at the Championship club.

Cardiff City FC said it had a zero-tolerance policy and was investigating.

The aspiring young footballer alleged they were targeted by a small group of children throwing bananas on a minibus with four members of staff present at the time.

When questioned about the mess, he said he tried to explain what happened and was told by a staff member to clear up the mess made by the bananas on the bus.
