Neil Warnock's Boro table offer for Ciaron Brown

The offer apparently was low and even a very cheeky offer as Browns contract had run out, but City have this week triggered an option to keep Brown for one more year.

It was Warnock who brought Brown to Cardiff from Wealdstone in January 2018.

Cardiff City have rejected Middlesbrough's first offer for Ciaron Brown with Neil Warnock setting his sights on securing a deal for the defender, according to TEAMtalk.

The defender was brought back from his loan spell up in Livingston by Mick McCarthy back in January and played a prominent role throughout the back half of the season.

McCarthy had been tipped off by a friend of his who scouts north of the border and he heard some positive things about the Northern Ireland international.

His contract was due to run out this summer, but Cardiff have seemingly triggered an option to keep him in the Welsh capital for another season.

However, Sean Morrison, Aden Flint and Curtis Nelson are the first-choice back three, while new Arsenal signing Mark McGuinness has been brought in to challenge for that back-up spot.

It could see Brown's game time reduce in the upcoming campaign and Warnock, who brought Brown to Cardiff from National League South side Wealdstone back in January 2018, could pounce.

The 23-year-old was reportedly the subject of a bid from Boro, however TEAMtalk say that offer was turned down, with other clubs also interested in the player.
