The Opposition's Manager - Graham Potter

Graham Potter took charge of Brighton in 2019, during that time he has continued to keep them in the Premier League for two successive seasons.

Before taking over at Brighton, he was manager of Swansea for one season - guiding them to 10th place in the Championship.

He had previously been manager at Ostersund in Sweden.

He was linked with the Spurs job in the summer, but publicly stated he had no intention of leaving Brighton.

Opposition Dangerous Players

We will have to be wary of Leandro Trossard, who is one of Brighton's most creative players - should he play.

Neal Maupay is also a danger, but he picked up an injury in their game against Watford and probably won't be involved.

Previous Meeting

The last time we played Brighton was in 2019, when we won 2-0 at the AMEX Stadium in the Premier League.

This is a game for trying things out, giving game time to some players, but protecting key members of the squad.

Graham Potter:

"Mick McCarthy has done a fantastic job – he’s an experienced manager.

"They play to their strengths really well, they’ve got some dangerous players and are good from set plays.

"It’s a really organised team that plays to their strengths and we know it will be a really tough game.

"I don’t know their situation in terms of what they’ve been through in pre-season – they’ve got a big squad I presume because they play in the Championship.

"But whoever plays they will be organised, they will play to their strengths, they will be competitive and resilient.

"They will be everything you would expect from a Mick McCarthy team and they will want to win. It’s going to be a really good test.

"I don’t think I will get a particularly nice welcome, that’s for sure!

"But it will be nice to go back to south Wales again, but I am not expecting a pleasant welcome."

What's the latest team news?

Mick McCarthy has not suffered any fresh injury concerns to his squad.

The manager will, however, likely rotate the side which won against Millwall at the weekend, given the fixtures are already coming thick and fast in August.

It means we could see some players receive some minutes who have not yet had the opportunities they would have liked, namely the likes of Will Vaulks and Josh Murphy.

Isaac Vassell is one who could also benefit, too, having played two 90-minute matches for the under-23s in recent weeks. It would be a real boost to see him back in the first-team fray.

Youngsters such as Tom Davies, Sam Bowen and Kieron Evans will all be looking to force their way into the manager's thinking, too.

Whether Mark McGuinness, Ciaron Brown and Lee Tomlin have recovered in time for this one remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the big news coming from the south coast is that Neal Maupay is unfit for the midweek clash.

Seagulls boss and former Swansea City manager Graham Potter has said their top scorer this season is out of the cup clash after being taken off at the weekend with a shoulder injury.

Danny Welbeck is also still injured and will not feature for Brighton on Tuesday evening, while defender Joel Veltman is unlikely to return until after the international break.

I think the EFL/League cup have dictated that the games can’t be shown. I assume it’s because they want to try and get people into the grounds - but the reality is that fans aren’t that interested in the early rounds of this competition as shown by the crowds last round and for many seasons before that.

The EFL need to accept that and sell game passes for this competition as they did during last season. I bet they and the clubs would make far more income and not burden them with the cost of stadiums operating at 10% capacity.

Instead they have a competition that now has hardy any visibility and is arguably even more devalued.
