Start to the season?

SEAN MORRISSON:

Disappointed with the Bristol City game, losing before the international break. It’s nice to finish on a win so to finish with a defeat was difficult to take.

We had started the season OK.

Bristol, in terms of controlling the game, was one of the best we played, but we conceded two sloppy goals.

There is definitely room for improvement.

The last two weeks, the boys who have been here have been working hard.

We need to be better in the next block of games and close the gap.

Top six open this season, isn’t it?

I agree. The lads at the top of the league are probably the two teams with the best squads and most depth.

They’ve managed to keep hold of most of their players and have been building strong squads for years.

The four places below that are something we are striving towards.

We had a push last year, but it was a little too late.

The goals is top six. You can never call the Championship, it’s always competitive, but the gaffer won’t let us take our foot off the pedal.

One club came in for Kieffer Moore, how important to hang on for him?

It’s huge. I’ve spoken about his importance to our squad.

A player who scored 20 goals last season in any team is huge. We’ve never had that since I’ve been here.

Very, very happy we managed to keep him.

Kieffer would want to stay at the end of the day, he knows what we’re building towards and his importance in this squad.

If he scores another 20 goals it gives us a great chance of promotion.

If he scores 20, with the additions we’ve made, we’re definitely going to be in and around that top six.

Kieffer is focused on helping the team as much as possible, he is a great professional.

I’m sure he’ll want to better his tally from last year.

Centre-halves at Cardiff love scoring goals?

Rob Dickie was my boot boy at Reading, he has been incredible this season!

It’s amazing to see.

Flinty is about 9ft too. If you whack the ball into the atmosphere he will head it in the goal!

For the first few years I was here we had Whitts, now Joe Ralls, Gilo, Marlon. If they put it in the right area and you’re willing to attack it you give yourself a chance.

You’ve got Kieffer, myself, Flinty, Nels, who would die to head that ball!

Forest only have one point, are you surprised? Great time to play them or not?

I am surprised.

Chris Hughton is a fantastic manager and has a great squad there.

Trolls is his assistant who we worked with here and I know how good of a coach he is.

You know with the quality they possess it’s going to be an extremely tough game on Sunday.

The last two weeks they’ll have been working on us specifically.

They are going to be right at it.

Forest is one of my favourite places to play. Their fans get right on top of you when they are playing well.

I fully expect it to be a really tough game.

Two weeks since the game, what’s it like for those who don’t go away for internationals?

Initially we have a couple of days off. It was a tough block of games.

You have a few days to decompress.

You don’t really get time to look back, you look forward and focus on where you did well.

We don’t want the Bristol game to be too much of a lull.

It’s nice to have the boys back in today who have been away on internationals.

Helped you with any niggling injuries?

I had a bit of a strain on the medial ligament of my knee in the cup game. We assessed it before Bristol and made the decision it was worth the risk to play with the two-week break.

I’ve only missed one day of training.

We have managed it OK, it’s still not 100 percent but it’s much better than two weeks ago.

Lads are constantly nursing injuries or knocks and niggles.

Panicked Cardiff fans… but you’re always playing through something?

Yeah! We are robust.

I can’t remember the last time I haven’t had a niggle. My elbow still gives me a bit of aggro from the end of last season.

It’s just about trying to manage it as best as possible through the week.

Did you watch the Wales games?

I watched the second half of the first game and the majority of the second game.

Harris and Colwill?

It’s incredible for them both. I’ve been with Sparky here a long time.

His career has been up or down.

You never know if he’s going to cement a place at Cardiff or move on. The last year he has come on leaps and bounds.

He just looks a much more mature player.

I just thought when he came on in the first game he changed the game, him and Jonny.

Rubin starting was incredible. His first start for Wales in a WCQ, amazing.

The progression from him, too, turning into a man. He has got a steady head and good people around him.

Mark Harris an example of never giving up?

I’m not surprised. I’ve seen Sparky for many years here and you’re always seeing these players who have the ability, never slacking in the gym or working with finishing.

It’s not a surprise to see him gain the rewards for that.

Sometimes players don’t get the opportunities and that might have been the case for Sparky over the years.

But the gaffer now is not afraid to put young or inexperienced players.

If you’re good enough you will play.

Deadline day, Kieffer Moore, talk of Wolves, a huge boost for the players to know he’s staying?

Kieffer is such an integral part of this team. On and off the pitch, he is a big character in the changing room.

He is an experienced player. He has done it at international level.

We are very happy to have him in spite of the interest we have had in him.

When you have a player like Kieffer in the team, it gives you every opportunity to win games in the Championship.

Kieffer scored at Forest last season, his first goals, what did you think then?

As soon as we signed him, I remember speaking to the previous manager and we were super excited.

I’ve played against Kieffer many times and he’s always been a very good player.

He has come on in the last few years where he as clicked, scoring and creating goals, occupying two or three centre-halves.

We were very lucky to get him last season with the financial difficulty Wigan were in.

When he scored those two goals against Forest, we knew there was a guy who could put the ball in the back of the net.

Last season he did incredibly well and I’m sure he’ll want to do the same this season.

Re: SEAN MORRISSON:

What impact can he have on Harris and Colwill?

A massive impact, especially Rubin, his size and stature. Kieffer uses his body incredibly well.

It’s something you learn in the Championship, smashing into centre halves and linking up well. That’s something Rubin won’t have had a lot of in the u18s and u23s.

They will only benefit by learning and listening.

We have still got James Collins who played for Ireland. It’s a horrible decision to have as a manager!

You’ve got great players who possess so much quality. Even on the bench, like Sparky and Rubin against Peterborough away, those two came on and give us a lift and spark we needed to earn a draw away.
