‘ Mark Robins / Mick McCarthy’

Mark Robins:

“We have to maintain that focus.

“You can see that they’re fighting for each other, that they’re desperate to get the points. They want that success and to win games to do well for the supporters. It’s been a great start at home and we’ve got to try and pick up points away from home a little bit better than we did last season.

“Really, we’ve got to just keep doing the work and not looking too far ahead.”

Mick McCarthy:

“It’s not been the perfect setup, but it ends up being perfect when people come in and do a job. I’m delighted for the lads making their league debuts, Sam Bowen and Kieron Evans; it’s great for them.

“Kieron scored two goals for the U23s in midweek, one with his left foot and one with his right. He came on today and did an honest job, but he’s a good technical player.

“It’s tough enough having a couple of days to get your head around the fact that you’re going to start, and to prepare. So to get the call ten minutes before kick-off, Sam came in and did well. He’s been doing really well in training.”

One is a modern day manager who showed tonight how effective his players can be if they do the basics properly.

One is a dinosaur who thinks a team full of big lads will suffice and something will happen.
