:bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: “ MICK McCARTHY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Friday 17th September 2021

Mick McCarthy's claims that the squad is big enough this season and despite in the latest transfer window that saw more departures than arrivals, McCarthy is adamant he has a strong squad with back up in all positions :bluebird: :bluebird:

Mick McCARTHY:

Free transfer market of interest?

"Not at the moment. I don’t want to bring people in for them to not be playing. I think we’ve also got some good youngsters, who in this moment in time are doing a good job."

"We dont need anymore new additions, we have the squad and strength in depth."

"If we’re going to do that then we’ve got to continue to trust them."

Mick McCARTHY:

Thankfully Mick McCarthy said:”We have plenty of strength in depth in this squad and we are not hindered by the injuries.” :thumbright: :bluebird:

Joe Ralls was ruled out of the trip to the City Ground due to a groin problem, and his prognosis is looking bleak, with the Bluebirds boss admitting the midfielder could be facing up to a month on the treatment table.

" Joe Ralls will be out up to a month."

"Ryan's got Covid, so he's isolated," McCarthy replied when asked about his latest injury concerns."

"So it'll be the 10 days from when he got it and we've got to see how he feels when he comes back of course.

Back at it?

"Absolutely. You’ve got to recover and crack on. It’ll be a tough one, Bournemouth."

How much longer has Giles got in his isolation?

"Good question. He’s got Covid. And what effect will it have on him? He’s had it once before and he’s double-jabbed. He’s one of the younger players that is double-jabbed. I don’t know is the answer to that.

"He’s not got much longer. He was out before Forest, so it’s maybe about three days before his isolation, but then he’s got to come back and train. We’ll see how he is."

"We are not the only club suffering with losing players due to covid, nearly every club is, we have a squad to pick from."

Updates on walking wounded?

"Leandro will train today. It looks like he’s okay. Joe Ralls won’t, Ryan Giles is still off. They’re a big loss to us.

"They’ve been playing well. Certainly Ryan, who was having a great time."

MICK McCARTHY:

"Lee Tomlin had a repair operation on a groin problem at the beginning of the week, so will be out for a while."

Chris Hughton?

"It’s sad news. He was under the cosh. We all knew that. It’s the manager’s game.

"You lose five or six on the bounce and it’s difficult for any of us."

Miss any player of Ryan’s quality?

"Of course. That pace and those deliveries that he puts in.

"He makes it a lot easier for strikers getting into the box."

Shown you can take on these sort of teams?

"Absolutely, but you’ve got to respect their level of quality. It’s been a tough week for the lads. We didn’t get in until 2am the other day, so it’s about recovery. But we’ll be alright.

"We could do with everyone fit. It’s a smaller squad than last year, but the nucleus is still there. You can have a big squad and not really use it. We’ve got some durable players in there."

Youngsters getting opportunities?

"They do. You see the ups and downs of being a youngster. Rubin comes on and scores two, and then it’s a tough one for him.

"Sunday takes an emotional toll. It’s not going to ever be the same. The opposition are ready for you now. But he’s going to have a really good future for us. Same with Sparky."

Senior players helping Rubin and Sparky get over Wednesday?

"There’s nothing too serious that happened. It just didn’;t happen on the night. That;s just what happens from time to time. You’ve got to try and change it. We give them plenty of info and make them understand.

"Sometimes that happens. It’s part of the game, but yes senior players can help.

"I thought Coventry were a very good side. They’re one of the best teams we’ve played so far."

Young vs old on Fridays in training?

"It's good actually because you do see what the younger ones are made of. The younger ones have been slapping them recently too.

"In one game, they went 1-0 up, then 2-1 down, then 3-1 down and they unravelled a bit. They want to win. When the oldies had the game by the scruff of the neck at 3-1, they were on top. I said that it was a big learning curve for them."

Mentioned performance needed to be better - case of execution or do you need to change up a couple of things?

"Not really changing anything.

"We played on the Sunday and I thought we were very good. We went to Nottingham Forest and we were 1-0 down and then turned them over with a really top performance in the second half. It’s football.

"Sometimes you play badly, but we’re not going to throw everything out just because we’ve been beaten."

Surely Tomlin should now be asked to leave - one thing after another - can’t see sick note returning when’s his contract up ?

Cardiff are looking to record consecutive league wins over Bournemouth for the first time since winning against them in February 1939 and September 1946.

Bournemouth have only won two of their 18 away league games against Cardiff City (D7 L9), winning in October 1985 and March 2000, both times in the third tier of English football.

Cardiff haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last seven home league games, with the Bluebirds last conceding in more consecutively between April and November 2016 (11 games).

Bournemouth are one of two sides without defeat in the Championship this season (along with West Brom), with the Cherries scoring at least twice in six of their seven games so far.

Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has been involved in six goals in his last six league games, scoring five and assisting one.

Solanke another one we tried to sign at the height of our powers; but I seem to recall he didn't exactly hit the ground running after his move?

He seems to have made up for it now though and we need concern ourselves about him today. Maybe Championship is his perfect level...?

This made me laugh Mallo.

They can ask him to leave all day long but he’s not going to say .. aw go on then!
And then rip up his half a million quid contract! :laughing6:
