Our thoughts are with Len's family and friends at this sad time.

Did well for us and kept his trophy shop on Corporation Road for years, sp lenty of trophies in his cabinet...

Got us promoted with an entertaining team and we are forever grateful...

Sad to hear.

He did a fantastic job in rebuilding a side with that went down by signing some inspired free transfers and going straight back up again in 82/83

Len Ashurst: Former Cardiff City and Newport County manager dies age 82

As a senior player Len Ashurst represented Hartlepool and Sunderland

Former Cardiff City and Newport County manager Len Ashurst has died aged 82.

The former Sunderland player was in charge of Newport during the most successful period in the club's history, leading them to the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners Cup in 1982.

He then had two spells in charge of the Bluebirds from 1982-1984 and 1989-1991.


He holds Sunderland's record for appearances for an outfield player with 458.

By coincidence I only came across this yesterday.

It is a match day program showing Len , then with liverpool Youth, being called up to the England youth side against Holland in 1957

what a great man, loved him as a manager and as a gentleman, had time for everyone.
