Byrne is a Free Agent
Irish sports outlet Pundit Arena claim that midfielder Jack Byrne linking back up with Mick McCarthy at Cardiff City is "not totally out of the question".
McCarthy gave Byrne his debut for the Republic of Ireland before signing him at APOEL Nicosia in his last job.
The manager left at the start of this calendar year before linking up with the Bluebirds, while Dublin native Byrne departed APOEL last week, meaning he is now a free agent.
Pundit Arena claim the 25-year-old has three suitable options; Cardiff, a return to Shamrock Rovers and MLS expansion side Charlotte FC.
Here is what they had to say about a possible link-up with his former Ireland boss: "Byrne, 25, may have missed the boat on this one, but a return with Mick McCarthy might still not be totally out of the question.
"McCarthy gave the midfielder his Ireland debut and signed him for APOEL Nicosia, so it is safe enough to suggest that he would be interested in acquiring Byrne’s services once more.
"Granted, Byrne’s preferred style of play may not totally suit McCarthy’s, but it would not be the worst move for the former Shamrock Rovers midfielder."
McCarthy has thus far said little to suggest that signing free agents is on the agenda.
