Cardiff City contact police, Swansea City and EFL over 'issu

Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:07 pm

Cardiff City have contacted South Wales Police over "issues of concern" following the derby with Swansea City.

Cardiff have also been in touch with Swansea and the EFL over incidents which occurred at last Sunday's game.

The Bluebirds are unhappy with Swansea's celebrations, and say their directors were abused.

"We can confirm that we are in dialogue with Swansea City, South Wales Police and the EFL over a number of issues of concern," a Cardiff spokesperson said.

BBC Wales understands Cardiff's chief complaint is over the 'swim away' celebrations performed by a number of Swansea players - including man-of-the-match Jamie Paterson - and head coach Russell Martin.

The swimming gesture is a reference to a clash between rival supporters following a derby encounter at the Swans' former Vetch Field home in the late 1980s.

Cardiff, who were beaten 3-0, feel the gesture is highly provocative and threatens to escalate tensions between the two sets of fans.

Cardiff are also unhappy that shots of manager Mick McCarthy followed immediately by chief executive Ken Choo and director Steve Borley were shown on the big screen at the Swansea.com Stadium.

They say that led to Choo and Borley being verbally abused by home fans and feel Swansea should not have allowed the images to be shown.

Not sure about the swim away by players but certainly their manager needs a slap by efl not acceptable for him to do it knowing its history... as for pictures on screen that is totally unacceptable and club again should be slapped across face with a bluebird ...... but there again what can you expect from a grubby club looking for any exposure in the news they can get...

I really couldn't care. I mean really. It comes across as petty. We lost they celebrated rightly so. And now we're trying to tell on them. Who cares honestly. If we beat them. I would fully expect our players to rub salt in the wound. They do the swim away all the time. Why now is it an issue.

The issue is managers should not get involved with mocking opposition which is what the swim away is.... same for showing opposition board members or manager on big screen wtf is that all about it's never done for obvious reasons .... very poor from swans ... and it would be same for any club doing it simply not acceptable

Players doing it no problem .. but is it right an oposition manager does it? Also have you ever seen a clubs board member and manager get shown on opposition big screen? Begs question why did they did so...

Stuff was thrown on the pitch from the Cardiff end at/towards the gypo when he scored, ran in front of our fans and goaded them. we (Cardiff the Football Club) will probably get in trouble for that so if they have brought it up I would imagine its purely in mitigation so I would hold back on going in hard against the Club on that, they are already in the shit after the pitch invasions at the Brighton game.

As for the other bit, really shit thing to do by the Jacks and if the Club complain about it then you cant really blame them.

Really seems everything club does people deride it... but its simply not acceptable for any club to fo the things they did? Take away what's going on at club and look at it from a moral stance ..... no club manager should get involved in mocking opposition with gesture as Martin did also as anyone ever seen a clubs board member and manager put up on big screen of opposition? That is context should be looked at not have go at club for complaining

I agree...

Their turn in the sun (for a few days going on tonight's score so far) and not like our support woukdn't do the same...

If only we had a manager who had such a rapport with his club's supporters, eh?

Not to be taken too seriously; unless someone has a highly paid agenda you need to protect, of course!

Chris maybe they shouldn't have complained but swans manager joining in with swim gesture or putting ken on big screen they simply shouldn't have done it ... as for tonight it shows how wrong mick got it Sunday? Swans 76% possession losing not for 1st time this season :o

Why do our fans think its acceptable for another manager to mock city and the club put up our board member on big screen? You tell me when have you ever seen that done by another club? To me the embarrassment is our fans thinking it ok

Pity the discussion can’t be about improving the football!

Have past managers done the Ayatollah? Yes. That’s a manager I touch with the fans - Like Neil Warnock was.

Do we know exactly who decided what went on the screen? I assume if it’s televised, the feeds come from Sky (who always show the reactions of managers and board members when a goal is scored or the game ends).

Get the football right and none of this will happen!!!

Would we be complaining if we'd come back and won? No we wouldn't. We are complaining because our team isn't good enough.

What's on screen inside ground is strictly controlled by club.. sky show their pictures to the world not inside ground to home fans...... ayatollah is not mocking a club the swim away is and their manager did it? Have you or anyone else ever seen a club do both incidents dont think so and that is why it is wrong... players doing it yes but not in front of away fans as it apparently was as will only incite trouble....

How much of an embarrassment can Cardiff get.
Sky show pictures of the Cardiff directors looking miserable as their team get hammered the home fans boo and laugh.
Swansea fans and players do the swim away just like the Cardiff players and fans slap their heads every game.

Are Cardiff going woke let's report Swansea to the teacher , the EFL and the police. You just have to laugh at them.

Meanwhile Cardiff do improve only 2-0 away to second place Fulham and Swansea beat third place WBA.
I am sure WBA will act like a big team and admit they were well beaten.

Do you know the origin of the Ayatollah? Do you think that the people who originally did that gesture find its use as a football based celebration acceptable? I don’t think so! Not that I care. But there again, the swim away doesn’t bother me either.

If, as you say, the tv footage shown in the ground is controlled by the club, then maybe it was a bad judgement, but nothing more.

If you want to talk about the way these gestures or images can provoke the crowd, how about the steward who directed the Ayatollah at the home crowd? He was spoken to by police and escorted out, but not before doing it again. That was before a ball had been kicked, so let’s not ‘throw stones’ when perfection isn’t a trait of the club.

What about losing 3-0 in such a manner? That’s offensive!!!!

I haven’t been on this forum for a while, and now I remember why!!

This is the set of club officials complaining one of whom got on a supporters club coach ahead of the game and uttered words to the effect that he would like a new manager too? That club. That so well run club.

The Jabk players obviously wanted to ‘win’ those fans over , so did the ‘swim away’, thing is , they probably really hadn’t thought about its’meaning
It’s supporting an act of ‘thuggery’ directed purely towards Cardiff fans.. this in a ‘derby’ game is incitement, our fans could of reacted , badly, very badly.. then for rhiw manager to do it is not on.. definite charge against them by FAW

I don't really care what they do, but I would back our club every time, you could bet your bottom dollar if our Players, Manager, stewards or anyone connected to our club made a gesture about past of the pitch incidents they would do the same.

Nothing to do with the FAW it will be the FA if any charges will be forthcoming. It will be down to reports from the referee and match delegate and as there was no incident following the "Swim Away" gesture I cannot see anything coming of this.

I think our club know this so they have thrown the toys out of the pram and gone to the police. Simple act of deflection by our club who in my opinion need to grow a pair.
