:bluebird: :bluebird: “ NEW INTERIM MANAGER STEVE MORISON UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 28th October 2021

STEVE MORISON:

"Hopefully we can start something over this next week, get a little bit of a run going and that will make the two home games really, really exciting." :bluebird:

Morison has been told he will manage the next three Cardiff City games and the CCFC Committee will decide after that.

Sat Oct 30 Stoke City v Cardiff City

Wed Nov 3 Queens Park Rangers H

Sat Nov 6 Huddersfield Town H

STEVE MORISON:

"With these players , ahead of the Stoke game, I need to tell them what I want, ask them to carry out what I want, not give them too much ‘out there’ stuff that’s been miles away from what they’ve been doing.”

“I will get them playing football again.”

STEVE MORISON:

“I'm not getting carried away”

"I am going to be the most boring man in the world now, I’ve not even thought about it!" Morison said.

"I've had so much go on in the last 24 or 48 hours that the last thing I need to worry about is what might happen on the back of Stoke, QPR and Huddersfield.

"It’s the first time I’ve been in the manager’s office! I'm not coming in here, I've kept myself in the coaches' office with the staff.

"We are just working really, really hard to get a result at Stoke.

"You don’t go and do your Pro Licence and stuff like that because it's not in your mindset in the future.

"I had a huge job changing the 23s' fortunes around, changing the mindset of the club and academy and that’s what I’ve been working towards.

"I’ve managed to achieve that, I've made massive changes there and that's showing in their performances. Between myself, Tom and the staff, we've made huge strides there. That had been my focus up until Monday afternoon.

"I'm not getting carried away."

Tom Sang is unavailable owing to aggravating that big toe on which he had surgery during pre-season, however the midfield looks particularly sparse heading into the weekend.

Marlon Pack is suspended for the game following his fifth booking of the season in the Middlesbrough defeat last weekend, while Joe Ralls is still struggling with a collarbone problem he sustained against Swansea City.

STEVE MORISON:

To compound the above, both Leandro Bacuna and Sam Bowen are major doubts for the clash at the bet365 Stadium, with Morison stating: "Leo has been struggling with a hamstring, hopefully will be back at some point next week.

"Sam Bowen has an issue with his plantar fascia, he will be back after the international break."

That means Will Vaulks is the only fully fit central midfielder Morison currently has at his disposal, which is remarkable given there are five natural centre-mids at the club.

"We are low on numbers, but that’s life!" Morison quipped.

It might well be a sliding-doors moment for some players Morison knows well, though. We saw 18-year-old Eli King make his debut for the Bluebirds last weekend and he could now be thrust into contention for the trip to Stoke.

Similarly, Keenan Patten, another player Morison knows well from the under-23s, might get the nod to step up to the senior side.

.

Another injury Morison has to contend with is James Collins, who has suffered a nasty hand injury which leaves him unlikely to feature this weekend.

"James has busted his thumb," Morison said of the Republic of Ireland international. "He had to have a couple of screws inserted [on Tuesday].

"So it shouldn’t be too long, as amazing as that sounds. If he can get a cast on it he should be fine, but maybe not OK for Saturday."

Isaak Davies might well benefit from Collins' misfortune, with the Wales youth international also having made his senior debut against Boro last weekend.

It could also spell positive news for Chanka Zimba, too, after the 19-year-old continued his prolific start to the season with the winning goal in the under-23s' 2-1 triumph over their Ipswich Town counterparts on Tuesday.

Steve Morison says he'll put a smile back on the faces of Cardiff City players and addresses interest in permanent manager's job

Steve Morison and assistant Tom Ramasut take charge of their first game this weekend with a trip to Stoke City

Wednesday 27th October 2021

Morison will take charge of the Bluebirds up at Stoke City this weekend, with Cardiff's players licking their wounds following a club-record eighth consecutive defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough last weekend.

That proved the final straw for Mick McCarthy and Morison was asked on Saturday to take charge of the team, alongside Tom Ramasut, on an interim basis up until the next international break.

While everyone's focus is on who the next person will be to steer the ship, with Morison's name in the mix, the man himself said stopping the rot is the only thing at the forefront of his mind.

STEVE MORISON:

"I am going to bring a smile back on their faces and get their confidence back.”

While he admits that if he wins the next three matches those odds will only shorten, Morison, who coached the under-23s on Monday ahead of their win over Ipswich on Tuesday, is trying to drown out the noise because losing nine on the bounce is almost unthinkable.

"I’m in the betting because I’m here now!" Morison added.

"If I win three out of three, like we're planning on doing, then I’m going to be higher in the betting!

"Honestly, I’m not worried about it one little bit. I’m not interested in what people might say – I never have been and I never will be. I’ve got one sole focus and that is getting us a result on the weekend.

"Because, ultimately, we can’t go nine for nine."

With that in mind, how does Morison go about arresting this alarming slide down the table?

The players look short of confidence, cannot score at one end of the field and cannot keep the ball out of the net at the other.

But sometimes, as Morison alludes to, it's about making slight changes and putting smiles on faces once again.

"Just try something different," Morison added.

"Often, a new voice – I’ve been in many dressing rooms when managers have been sacked and new managers have come in, often not a lot changes. It’s just a new atmosphere, putting a smile on their faces, getting them working.

"What I said to them is, 'There's no pressure on you guys now, the pressure is all on me, everyone is looking at me'. People are asking ‘Can he do it? What can he change? He's only worked in the under-23s.’

Steve Morison opens up on style of play

Caretaker boss Steve Morison has admitted he won't be "ripping up the playbook" when it comes to altering Cardiff City's style of play.

The Bluebirds have been criticised for their apparent lethargy in both attack and defence over the course of their eight-game losing streak.

It has been a tough watch at times, with City's football largely direct and lacking any sort of accuracy going forward, while the defence has been carved open all too often.

Morison said it is uncomfortable talking about style of play, per se, but hopes to incorporate some nuggets of what has made his under-23s side so pleasing to watch over the last few months.

STEVE MORISON:

"Style is a really horrible thing to talk about," he said.

"When you’re winning games no one cares. It only becomes a massive conversation when you’re not winning games.

"I’m going to get try and get the best out of these players, playing in a way that gets the best out of them.

"I have to be really mindful and careful of the fact that, if you give them too much information, you don’t want to confuse them.

"We’ve been doing something in the under-23s, we’ve worked on it for so long that now if you add something in, it’s really easy because all the other stuff is second nature.

"With these boys, ahead of the Stoke game, I need to tell them what I want, ask them to carry out what I want, not give them too much ‘out there’ stuff that’s been miles away from what they’ve been doing.

"Hopefully the players that go on to the pitch on Saturday will play in a way that suits them and gets the best out of them.

"That's my main focus, it's not a ripping up the rule book of how we play football. We've still got to run harder than Stoke, fight harder than Stoke and we've got to stop the ball going in our goal and make sure we put it in their goal a few times."

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON: “ THURSDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2021 “

Thu Oct 28, 2021 8:24 am

STEVE MORISON:

"We're in a battle at the minute and we need to get out of it," he began. "I'm here to help and try and get some positive results.

"I came in on Monday, took the U23s to prepare them for their game on Tuesday and send them off with the messages we've been working on all season. Then we got to work on Monday afternoon preparing for this weekend's game. That's my remit: preparing for Stoke City. Then, we'll look at QPR after that.

"Hopefully we can start something over this next week, get a little bit of a run going and that will make the two home games really, really exciting."

As City prepare to face the Potters in the hunt for an important result, Morison explained that confidence is key in order to turn their fortunes around.

"It's all about if I can simplify it and put a bit of confidence in them," he continued. "We know they're capable of it, so it's just a question of getting them to do that on the pitch.

"From my point of view, I'm trying to get them working with a smile on their face. I've told them: 'There's no pressure on you now – the pressure is all on me.'

"They can go and enjoy themselves, carry out the plan that myself and Tom put in place. If they do that, I can sleep well at night knowing that they've carried out what I've asked, and that's my responsibility."

MY VIEW:

Interesting Steve Morison joined Cardiff City as lead coach for the U23’S in November 2019.

We had had some terrible results season after season in the U23’S, last season we saw an improvement towards the end of the season and this season 7 games, 7 wins.

The current U23’S side is way better in my opinion of the players that have been thrown in the Current Cardiff first team. Rubin Colwill for me is way ahead of any of the players that have been thrown in in to the current first team.

If you read what Morison says he had a major say in transforming the U23’S :thumbright: :bluebird:

STEVE MORISON:

"I've had a huge job in trying to change the U23s fortunes around”

"From when I came in, I've been working towards changing the mindset in the Academy and the Club.”

"I think I've managed to achieve that, making massive changes there and that's showing in the performances. Between myself, Tom and the staff in the Academy, we've made huge strides there and that's been my focus until Monday afternoon.”

“I have redeveloped a lot of the Accademy and hopefully, we are redoing the rewards now.”

"On the flip side of the results on the pitch, we've had really good work with a lot of players getting their opportunities in the first team, which we haven't had for many a year. We need to make sure that carries on."

Punters lump on Morison

Punters seem to have liked what Steve Morison had to say during his first press conference on Wednesday morning.

Morison was listed as far out as 16/1 in the betting odds on Wednesday morning, however, come the afternoon, the landscape was very different.

Now, however, he has moved up from eighth favourite to joint favourite alongside Chris Wilder as a 3/1 shot.

"I’m in the betting because I’m here now!" Morison said of the betting odds.

"If I win three out of three, like we're planning on doing, then I’m going to be higher in the betting!

"Honestly, I’m not worried about it one little bit. I’m not interested in what people might say – I never have been and I never will be. I’ve got one sole focus and that is getting us a result on the weekend.

Seen an interesting stat about Morison, he’s only player to score in all 6 English tiers and Internationally?? I thought Vardy had done that too??

Good comments from him, hope he does well.

If he does well, I think he's worth the gamble? We won't be spending the money to bring in a big name manager such as Wilder. Anyone else would also be a gamble.

He's done a brilliant job with the Under 23s and deserves a chance.

We should all support him for the next three games.

Especially like the comment where he says "I'll get these players playing football again".

I wish him all the luck in the world.
He’ll need it with an injury ravaged midfield and players needing to be galvanised into performing.

Losing all our centre midfielders won't change much - they haven't done anything with the ball all season!!

I do worry about the number of kids in the first team, in a losing side - obviously fingers crossed Morison can galvanise a change of fortune, and I will always support whatever team we have out there, never boo our team or chant about the manager getting the sack, but it is a mess; as a team, we play with virtually no confidence, even in the short spells we are on top.

Anyway CTID
