Swansea City investigating Union Jack flag 'incident' during Blackpool match

A disturbance in the crowd was seemingly sparked by the waving of a Union Jack flag and being used as a political stance.

Police intervened during the incident in the East Stand which a Swansea City spokesman said would be investigated

Swansea City say they will be investigating "as a matter of priority" a disturbance in the crowd during Saturday's game.

Towards the end of the match against Blackpool a scuffle broke out among Swans fans in the East Stand of the Swansea.com Stadium which was seemingly sparked by the waving of a Union Jack flag. Police officers were seen moving into the crowd to deal with the situation.

A club spokesman has described what happened as "not acceptable" and said such scenes won't be tolerated at the ground.

The displaying of Union Jacks by some fans is an emotive issue for many in the Jack Army and especially so when the flags also contain political-charged phrases or symbols. The flags are being used as political points, nothing to do with football.

A similar incident happened in the local South Wales Derby when some Swansea fans tore them down during the game.

Swansea City condemned Saturday's scenes and a spokesman said an investigation into what happened would be carried out.

In a statement the club said: "Swansea City is aware of an incident that took place in the East Stand towards the end of Saturday’s Championship fixture against Blackpool.

"The club will be investigating as a matter of priority because the scenes that occurred are not acceptable and won’t be tolerated at the Swansea.com Stadium."

South Wales Police were asked to comment.

The Swans had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the game after a late equaliser from the visitors cancelled out a first-half goal from Joel Piroe.

Again this is showing the bullshit hypocrisy amongst football Clubs it’s Players and fans. Political statements within football is ok or maybe not depending if you agree with those statements. You can’t have it just one way. Either politics is allowed in football or it isn’t.
Racism needs to be kicked out etc but there is anger because of a Union Jack.

Personally the UJ does not bother me in the slightest, if your deem yourself as British then its your flag as much as a Welsh one

As Nukes says, it’s hypocrisy. They’ll take the English money, speak the language, but show em a UJ and they’re throwing their leeks out of the pram..

It's madness so certain political statements can be made and others can't, certain flags can fly and others can't, sounds a bit controlled, can I wave a rainbow flag ??

From what I have read on social media, its more to do with how the fans with the UJ were acting towards other fans, rather than fans simply reacting to the flag itself. The union jack at Swansea games is nothing new.

I have only read a few things online so cant say for sure. But from what I have read, the fans with the UJ were mouthing off and offering fans out. Id imagine comments were made towards the flags and it escalated from there though.
