The Opposition's Manager - Grant McCann

McCann was appointed as Hull City manager in June 2019. Despite being relegated in 2020, due to a defeat to us, McCann stayed on as manager.

Last season, he successfully guided them back to the Championship at the first attempt by winning the League One title.

He had previously been manager at Peterborough United and Doncaster Rovers.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Mallik Wilks scored 19 goals in League One season and is an obvious danger.

Ex-Cardiff City player Josh Magennis scored 18 goals in League One last season.

Previous Meeting

We won 3-0 at home to Hull in the Championship in July 2020.

This result sent Hull down to League One.

Hull man to miss Bluebirds clash

Hull City's on-loan Manchester United youngster Di'Shon Bernard will miss the trip to south Wales next week though suspension.

He will add to Grant McCann's selection problems in the capital - the Tigers boss is already without the the injured Alfie Jones, Callum Elder and Josh Emmanuel for the trip south.

"I'm going to see if Cliffy Byrne has got his boots and see if he's available for Wednesday," Grant joked. "Defensively we're in trouble a little bit, obviously now we've only got Sean (McLoughlin) and (Jacob) Greavesy, the only two fit centre-halves.

"We'll see how Callum Elder is, it's not a great time for us in terms of the injuries and illness.

"It's just a bug," McCann said of Elder. "He wasn't feeling too great this morning (Saturday), he's been halfway around the world (on international duty) and jet-lag hits people differently, maybe that's something to do with it.

"He trained Thursday, he trained Friday and we got a phone call this morning (Saturday) that he wasn't right for the game."

A tough one to call on Wed. Having just won well away, against a team below us, hit by Injuries I can see a win. I don't think we suddenly have goals in us, but we are due to keep a clean sheet. Im going for a 1-0 win.

Similarly, Having just won well away, against a team below us, hit by Injuries... knowing City and how expectations are regularly shattered, I can see a 1-0 loss!!

I'll still stick with the win though. A 1st half Moore Pen.

Steve Morison remained coy on whether Kieffer Moore is back fit for Wednesday's game.

The striker was rested for the Preston clash last weekend and it was hoped he would be back available for Hull City on Wednesday night. While Morison didn't rule it out entirely, the forward was pictured in the club's training pictures on Tuesday, he did little to instil confidence.

Joe Ralls is also touch and go after his illness at the weekend. Tom Sang played for the under-23s against QPR on Tuesday and Morison ruled out his involvement on Wednesday night, too.

Isaac Vassell and Sam Bowen remain absent.

Hull City:

For the visitors, Di’Shon Bernard will miss the midweek game against Cardiff leaving Sean McLoughlin and Jacob Greaves as the only first-team defenders available.

Grant McCann said it could present an opportunity to Jevon Mills, Jake Leake or Tom Nixon to feature against the Bluebirds.

Match facts

Cardiff City are unbeaten in four league games against Hull City (W3 D1) since a 2-0 defeat in January 2016.

Hull have lost their last two away league games against Cardiff without scoring a goal – they last won there in September 2015 under Steve Bruce.

Cardiff are without a home league clean sheet in 13 matches – the Bluebirds last had a longer stretch without a home league shutout between December 1960 and November 1961 (20 games).

Hull City are looking to win three league games in a row at Championship level for the first time since November 2019.

After failing to score in any of his first 14 Championship appearances for Cardiff, James Collins netted his first league goal for the Bluebirds in their 2-1 win over Preston. Collins hasn’t scored in consecutive Championship appearances in the same season since a run of three in August and September 2019.

Chance!

Lewis-Potter sends in a vicious cross and Flint manages to get a head on it. He almost turns it into his own net... but it's out for a corner.

Quick Hull counter, there.

Perry Ng wins a big header 30 yards from goal and sends it over the Hull defence, but Moore just cannot get on the end of it. Hull reset - goal kick.

A bitty start to the game. Hull try and play through the lines but don't find any joy.

Pack is fouled just inside Hull's half and it's a Bluebirds free-kick.

Terrific run from Isaak Davies there. He picked the ball up on halfway and hared down on Hull's goal, slaloming in and our of defenders. It took a last-gasp tackle to stop him before pulling the trigger.

That'll give him some confidence.

Poor from Bacuna, sells Kieffer short and then has to track Callum Elder, who picked up the interception. Eventually concedes a corner.

Nice ball into the box from Perry Ng and Davies tries to spin his man, but he's ushered out of play by the Hull defender.

Re: MATCH THREAD:: " CARDIFF CITY v HULL CITY " MATCH THREAD

Wed Nov 24, 2021 8:11 pm

Oh how bizarre!

Will Vaulks throws it into the box and it bounces over everyone, including Nathan Baxter, and into the net.

The crowd cheer, but the referee points to the six-yard line for a goal kick. It can't be a goal unless someone from either team touches it.

Some nice play from Isaak Davies there to get past one or two men.

It falls into Moore's path and he lays it back to Vaulks, who tries a speculative one from 25 yards, but it's blocked and cleared.

Close!

Giles lofts a cross into the box. Kieffer is clattered as he tries to get to it but it falls into Flint's path, however his shot from close range is blocked.
