Drakeford been very quiet

Wed Dec 29, 2021 3:07 am

I've said from day one that Mark Drakeford over reacted to the new Omicron strain; ignoring all the research from South Africa, where all the evidence shows it's virtually the same as the common cold.

As the days go on, more and more studies are confirming this is the case.

I'm not a fan of Boris, but credit where its due; he held back on imposing further restrictions until the South African research was confirmed by our own experience.

On the other hand, Drakeford took the total opposite approach and was in the media making announcements daily on the need to impose further restrictions. But since its come out that Omicron is little more than the common cold then hes been remarkably quiet.

Watched the games on tv today. Sell outs of 60k plus attendances, yet here no more than 50 can watch an outside sporting event in Wales.

It's much more than not being able to watch the City; its about the Welsh government being able to impose massive restrictions on our way of life with no regard for the wider implications for society as a whole, i.e. mental health, our childrens development, businesses, financial hardship etc.

Covid is not going to go away and every study agrees its going to be with us for many years to come, if not forever; so we've just got to live with it, as we do with the 'flu

The vulnerable get vaccinated but we accept flu deaths of 20/40K per annum as the norm.

Be interesting what Drakeford has to say over the next few days.

You won't see Drakeford for a while because having changed the review period to every week before Christmas he's changed it back to every three weeks now that he's reimposed his draconian restrictions.

He'll be spending those three weeks trying every way he can to manipulate the statistics to justify the restrictions he brought in without a shred of evidence which will decimate the Welsh economy and cause widespread resentment amongst a population who see their neighbours in England able to go about their lives without such restrictions.

Drakeford and his cronies in the WAG have shown once again that their approach has nothing to do with protecting people from a virus - it is petty political point scoring using the economy and health of the Welsh population as a political football whilst expecting central government to pay for it's actions.

The man is a total prick.

And its so bad there are no hospitalisation figures until Dec 30th, A WEEK without any data, you could not make it up.

Listened to an NHS chief from london on Colin Murray Radio 5 last night and he says the data is reflecting that it is very mild and even though there is an increase in numbers in hospital around 50% are being admitted for something else and then finding they have Covid!

Again suprisingly and this needs to made known he said, there is no increase in ICU beds, and they expected to see some increase by now. Another 7 days of data and he stated they would probably be out the other side of this wave fingers crossed.

Of course the WA are not sitting until next week, have no figures for a week, incredible.

I just can’t believe these bunch of 3rd rate bureau-crates managed to get reelected they are shambolic

The people of Wales have brought this on themselves unfortunately

I'd like to think he'll call a swift end to restrictions and say 'sorry, I got it wrong'

An excellent post. WA say we cannot let the nhs get overrun. But it is them and their total inefficiency are to blame for a record waiting lists for the wait for surgery/operations and 13 hours - yes 13 hours wait in A&E. absolute scandal. Justify that one Drakeford and Eluned Morgan.

At least the scottish minister came out today and answered all questions
drakeford does what he wants its all gone to his head
as another pointed out 3weeks to weekly review then daily and even changing things hourly and now nowhere to be found
. shocking but the press at the briefings don' t pin him down he said at the last he would produce the evidence shortly still waiting dripford

Damaging the Welsh economy, taking away the publics liberties all for the sake of party politics, wow Labour you're so special let's all look at Wales and the state of the NHS and the economy in general !!!!

Are we saying that Scotland & Ireland are wrong aswell? Three governing bodies going aginst Boris?

Let's be brutally honest, England is as much a mess as anywhere, with lateral flow
tests becoming unavailable. Hospitality, theatre, night clubs, hotels, restaraunts all suffering massive
cancelations, with little compensation. At least we know where we are here. I feel sorry for those woking in hospitals
and NHS, constantly in the firing line, working the holidays to get jabs done. Sadly it's more
than a game of football.

That said, it is an unfair playing field with English teams allowed crowds. Something maybe
for EFL and F.A. to consider.
Worse for us all is the grand picture. Two jabs and a booster gone in for some, and we appear to be no
further forward standing almost in January 2022.
Interesting to read Annis' post about going out in Spain, and their tough line restrictions. There may well be a case
for something similar here in the future.

We locked down last year to stall the progress of Covid to allow time to get the vaccination program up and running. It was the right decision at that time.

Remember the Wales firebreak ? It was a total waste of time and within a few weeks we had the worse covid rates in the world. Covid is bigger than daft meaningless borders.

Omicron is rampant throughout Europe, it really is shit or bust time. All the country has had the option of two jabs and over half have had three. I really can't see what closing nightclubs or stopping open air gathering will do.

So far every wave in the UK has stated in London and a few weeks later hits the provinces, King Canute thought his power could stop the tide and we know how well that ended.

All the last 18 months has demonstrated to me is this tiny island is too small to have three jurisdictions doing different things.

Wag having a week off. Drakeford made his announcements so he could have a week off. Along with those in Public Health Wales that put the data together. He gave the vaccinators Christmas day and boxing day off too. Meanwhile, the guts of the NHS carries on. Obviously apart from GPs and Consultants.

Encouraging. Every time he speaks, it’s watching a Monty Python sketch.

Just clicked on the link for uk figures... and if you look at the graphs there has been no increase in uk hospitalisation or icu admissions the graph shows its virtually identical now as it was last july when all the restrictions were lifted..so what justfication has Drakeford got to reimpose them?

Whereas in England they announced no new restrictions until the new year, also giving themselves a week off.
6 of 1 - half a dozen of the other.

Krankie has never been right about anything, the Leggo headed cow. 500 allowed in Ibrox? There was more people in Govan Asda where’s the sense in that.

What I find said is the small percentage of fans affected by the WAG decision to ban fans.
We got 13k at the last home game. The Jacks 16k maybe. The Rugby regions 20 k between them.
The plastics in Wales don't give a f**k..
Perhaps we should go around cutting satellite cables. That might force a reaction.
