Ryan Wintle Cardiff recall update as Blackpool hope they can hold on to important midfielder

The Seasiders are hoping to keep hold of the midfielder who they signed on a season-long loan with a recall option.

Wintle has been a key figure in Blackpool's midfield since his summer arrival

Neil Critchley maintained Cardiff could 'quite easily recall' Ryan Wintle from his loan spell at Bloomfield Road.

The midfielder has been an important asset to Blackpool during the campaign, but a January recall clause is available in the near future for the Bluebirds to take him back.

Given the current need for squad players in order to fulfil fixtures under EFL Covid squad requirements and the issues that will cause in signing players, Steve Morison is considering the option of taking the player back to his parent club.

The Seasiders are already short in central midfield due to a number of long-term injuries so losing Wintle on top of that would likely see the need to bring in two players in that area this window.

And Critchley maintained it is a waiting game: “That’s out of our hands because he’s a Cardiff City player and Cardiff could quite easily recall him.

“There is sort of a window where they can do that which isn’t yet but their manager, I’m not sure what he’s thinking or what his club is thinking.

“We’d love to keep him, I know he’s enjoying it here and enjoying playing games on a regular basis which he wasn’t given at Cardiff.

“Hopefully, Cardiff decide that his next few months is more beneficial with us playing games than maybe with them."

As for the Cardiff side, Morison has looked to breed in a more expansive style of play with midfielders controlling possession.

Wintle would likely fit the bill for what the new manager is looking to do, leaving the window open for a potential return.

"I can't call Ryan back yet, so I don't have to worry about that," Morison told Wales Online.

"You will find out when everyone else finds out.

"Now is not the right time or place for me to say anything like that on Ryan as I can't call him back within the next week or two."
