‘ CARDIFF CITY ARE NOT RECALLING’

Josh Murphy and Gavin Whyte plan revealed

Cardiff City are not planning on recalling either of their players who are currently out on loan.

Josh Murphy is currently injured and Preston are paying a third of his wages, so Cardiff would be daft to recall him.

The Bluebirds have recalled two of their four players, Max Watters and Ryan Wintle, from their spells out on loan, prompting many to question whether Murphy and Whyte will be coming back this month.

The club learned this week that Murphy had suffered an injury setback and while Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe said the winger had suffered a setback which could last "a few weeks", it could in fact rule him out for as much as two months.

"Josh Murphy has had a bit of a setback with a calf injury now," said Lowe on Wednesday afternoon. "We don't know the timescale on that just yet, but he has definitely had a setback so we'll have to review that over the next few days and speak to Jacko (physio) on it.

"But he certainly won't be available for the next few weeks."

Given Preston are forking out for a hefty chunk of Murphy's wages, there is little value in him being recalled from his loan there, although he could return to the club for some rehabilitation over the coming weeks.

Murphy, whose contract is up at the end of the season, has endured a miserable season so far. He was unable to force his way into the Preston side and has not kicked a ball since October.

Gavin Whyte, meanwhile, looks set to stay at Oxford United for the remainder of the season. He is understood to be happy there, helping their promotion push, while Cardiff cannot guarantee that he would break into the side ahead of the young wide players they already have.

Cardiff are also hoping to bolster their own squad in that department this month and Whyte would fall further down the pecking order if that was the case.

It's pretty clear to most that our youngsters are struggling. It should be all hands on deck. Particularly two players who have hundreds of professional games between them, one a full international and the other having cost 11m and played in the PL!

I'd have both in the match day squad (if fit).

This could be a decision that really bites us in the ass. Especially if its financial. To save about 15k a week, hardly a lot in football terms!!

Im glad Murphy not coming back - his attitude was absymal on the pitch. Seemed to be a bit of a sulker - yet on his day - he could and would beat anyone. If he did come back he wouldnt be bothered to put any effort in anyway.

Whyte doesnt add anything to what we already have so he may as well stay put

Quote (the OP): "Josh Murphy is currently injured and Preston are paying a third of his wages, so Cardiff would be daft to recall him."

Absolutely, and I alluded to that in another thread

Looks like the £11m man has played his last game as a Bluebird and if that is the case, he (sadly) has to go down as a substantial disappointment during his time with us

Imho, he has been a complete let down for the price we paid for him, glatzel scored more in much less time, in a strange league, being played completely wrong by manager, cost half the money, and people vilified him on here calling him shit and worse!! And he was was not worth 5.5m, and I liked him! Looks like he be sitting out his contract (as we discjssed  ) and at a fair cost still to us!, when you add all these waste of money players, it's not hard to see where the monies went. :old: :bluebird:

We certainly did discuss and agree, Paul

Our record with regard to 'big money' transfers is undoubtedly poor and has been for many a year

Retrospectively, some of our 'free' or lower priced captures have been superb!

We need a Director of Football to work with the owner and manager (current or future) that knows his stuff and the market

The 'politician' needs to go (probably kicking and screaming) but I have no issues with Ken Choo and his role. Still waiting to read what the other 'new' guy, Jalil Rasheed, is bringing to the table but it may be that he is 'planning ahead' for the worse case CAS scenario?

Surprised we are not calling whyte back. We are hardly blessed with squad depth, pace or wide players. Didnt expect to see Murphy back though. Not who is needed in a relegation scrap. Frustrating as he has the ability but doesn't seem to have the drive.
