The truth behind every player linked with Cardiff City so far in the January transfer window

The Bluebirds have been linked with a number of players so far, while their first signing seems imminent

Cardiff City have been linked with no shortage of players so far in this transfer window.

The Bluebirds are understood to be on the lookout for two or three new additions by the end of the month.

Below, we go through every play who has been linked with Cardiff and the truth behind the club's actual interest in signing them...


Cody Drameh

Cody Drameh will be the first player to sign for Cardiff City in the January transfer window.

The Bluebirds need pace and athleticism and they believe he is someone who can add a bit of vibrancy to the side moving forward over the next few months.

He is a right back by trade, however he has occupied the left-back berth on occasion. He wanted minutes and it looks highly likely he will get them at Cardiff.

Leeds are currently in the midst of an injury crisis and as recently as Tuesday lunchtime they were mulling over whether to keep hold of him until after the game with West Ham on Sunday.

However, the Bluebirds got their man and he travelled down to the Welsh capital on Tuesday night ahead of his medical on Wednesday.


Ryan Giles

Ryan Giles was called back by Wolves at the beginning of the transfer window, but remained an onlooker on the bench during the Molineux club's FA Cup tie with Sheffield United.

There have been conflicting reports about the player potentially returning to the Welsh capital in recent days, however it is understood that Cardiff would be interested in taking him back if the option should present itself.

However, a decision on Giles' future for the back end of the season is likely to be taken at the end of the window.

Premier League clubs are stockpiling to assuage any potential Covid outbreaks in the coming months, however they will have to make their minds up on these youngsters before the end of the month if they are to afford them regular, and invaluable, first-team experience elsewhere.

Giles had been excellent for Cardiff in the first half of the season. Even in Cardiff's plight, he notched the most assists in the Championship.

Given his impressive start to the season, there will doubtless be a number of clubs interested in taking him for the second half of the campaign, Cardiff included. The ball is now very much in Wolves' court.


Haydon Roberts

Brighton youngster Haydon Roberts is not a player currently on Cardiff City's radar, WalesOnline has been told.

The Bluebirds are in the market for a left wing-back following the departure of Ryan Giles, who has gone back to his parent club Wolves, however they look well stocked elsewhere across the back line.

Roberts, 19, is primarily a centre-back, but has operated at on the left-hand side of defence on occasion.

Last Thursday, it was reported by our sister title YorkshireLive that Sheffield Wednesday faced competition from the Bluebirds if they were to sign the Seagulls man on loan this month.

The Cardiff link, however, appears to be wide of the mark, allowing the Owls a clear run at his signature.

Cardiff currently have five centre-halves and feel their efforts would be spent more wisely strengthening elsewhere in the squad.


Harlee Dean

Cardiff City held talks with Birmingham City defender Harlee Dean, but it is understood a deal could not be struck due to the club identifying priorities elsewhere this month.

Last week, our colleagues at BirminghamLive stated that the Bluebirds were interested in the 30-year-old, while West London Sport claimed that QPR were also taking a look at the player.

And WalesOnline has been told that indeed talks were held between Cardiff and Dean over a potential move, but Steve Morison has since confirmed that the Welsh club are looking only at loan deals this month.

Dean's contract at St Andrew's still has 18 months left to run and, as such, any transfer would command a transfer fee.


Jonathan Panzo

Club sources have insisted that Cardiff City are not in talks to sign former Chelsea defender and England youth international Jonathan Panzo.

Sources close to the player intimated to WalesOnline that the Bluebirds were indeed interested in striking a deal for the 21-year-old centre-back this month.

However, club sources have recently insisted that Cardiff are not in the running to sign the defender.

Panzo also has 18 months left to run on his contract at Dijon, where former Bluebirds favourite Bruno Ecuele Manga now plays, but given his age he would likely command a sizeable transfer fee.

With Cardiff eyeing additions at left wing-back and in forward areas, and on a strict budget, too, that sort of transfer is seemingly not possible at the minute.

Panzo, who came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, is currently with Dijon in France and previously enjoyed short spells at Monaco and Cercle Brugge.


Cyrus Christie

Cardiff City showed an interest in taking Fulham's Cyrus Christie on loan but the defender is now set to complete a permanent move elsewhere, WalesOnline has learned.

The Bluebirds were linked with the 29-year-old right back, but the player had also drawn interest from Elche in Spain and Bologna in Italy. Blackburn Rovers were also credited with an interest.

While it is understood that Republic of Ireland international Christie was a player on Cardiff's radar, he is expected to sign a permanent deal with another club in the coming weeks.


Rarmani Edmonds-Green

The centre-back plays for Rotherham United, on loan from Huddersfield Town.

The 22-year-old has impressed this season, leading to a number of clubs being linked with him in the January window, Cardiff and Preston among them.

However, club sources told WalesOnline that those links were way off the mark.

Centre back is not a position in which Cardiff are looking to strengthen in this window, given they already have five in their squad.

Cameron Humphreys-Grant is a product of the Manchester City academy and his performances for Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem have seemingly drawn interest from across Europe, with the Mail claiming that Cardiff's Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Coventry and Derby County, who have to operate within transfer restrictions, are all keen on the player.

But Cardiff understand that is not the case.

They are looking at the defence, but it is more in the wing-back area.

So, to sum up, apart from the lad who has signed from Leeds and keeping our fingers crossed that Giles might return, we're not really linked with anybody!

I think we will see a couple more loans,as its obvious the board are not giving morison money for permanent signings, as his contract is up at seasons end, and a new manager( if one comes in)will want his own players surely?
