Despite how frustrating it is, this is why it is right that the club are cutting their cloth accordingly and especially with court cases.

I noticed that in the EFL letter to the Welsh Govt last week, they stated that clubs lose about £400k per match when no fans or hospitality is allowed. On that basis you can see why it is a complete mess for clubs and the EFL, FA and PL just haven’t done enough to support.

Watching Newcastle spank £25m on an aging (in football terms) journeyman striker shows how tin eared football at the top level still is. A perfect opportunity for a reset likely wasted, but the EFL still need to take this chance to put in some real structural reforms to safeguard the game for the next 100 years.

With a legitimate gate of 20,000 you need every single attendee spending £20 on food and drink to bring in £400k. And then it's still income not profit. The fan ban is a farce and the reduction in income will be putting clubs in perilous financial positions but there is no way they are losing £400k through hospitality.

I take your point on the £400k being top end and it's a pretty general description so we don't really know what they're including in that figure but it's not a million miles away.

Don't forget some of the hospitality packages are £90-100 each before you even set foot in the ground which will bump up that average spend. Add to that the £200 per mascot (we seem to have 20 of them per game ) and sponsorship of the football, match day sponsors, programs and advertising within that, food, beer, etc., and £400K isn't massively out of kilter.

As you say, in that case it looks about right so pretty significant and a wonder how a lot of clubs survived the pandemic.

I knew Boro and the Wurzels were on the radar but not Stoke. I believe Forest could be coming on the radar as well.

I said a while back now, that a few clubs would be sailing to close to the wind,and it seems that is proving to be true! I dont think its just these 3 either tbh.
Ill say it again, could easily have/could be us, yet some fans insist on tan splashing more cash??

Im not a fan of retrospective penalties either! If you break the rules in this current season, any punishment should be this season too! We have been down this road before, and to me its unfair, as it means teams will be relegated, whilst those who have broken rules, live to fight another season in that division! Albeit with a points deduction, they at least get all the benefit of it being at the start, not midway, through the season, and the benefits of bigger gates too that come with being allowed to stay up( if a deduction of points would put you in relegation place otherwise)

Yes could be but better that our owner is keeping us ticking over during these times rather than the like the clubs being mentioned getting into trouble. Add Derby, reading and a few others and we’re doing ok.

These are unprecedented times imho, and a few more clubs will be in the shite too imho,its been quoted around 400k in lost revenue per game! Thats around a million a month( based on only 2 home games p/month!) Thats a lot of money for any club to be missing, and last season all clubs would have suffered severe financial hardships, and some are now coming to light, some imho still to come!

I for one am happy for now, its not us,and the cutbacks now make a lot more sense.plus we still have the sala case to come, and whatever that will bring in terms of finances going forward.
