Cardiff City's inside man at Elland Road helped Leeds United youngster Cody Drameh seal loan move

Leeds United defender Cody Drameh has joined Cardiff City on loan in the Championship for the remainder of the 2021/22 season

No sooner had Marcelo Bielsa's post-match press conference concluded at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, had news broke of an imminent transfer.

Cody Drameh was named by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano as being close to sealing a loan move to Championship outfit Cardiff City.

The 20-year-old defender had been a second half substitute in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, but shortly thereafter would depart Leeds on loan for the rest of 2021/22.

Drameh joins Cardiff amid a second tier relegation battle. Teetering precariously above the Championship drop-zone, Cardiff moved quickly in the January transfer window to secure the youngster's signature.

From Leeds United supporters' perspective, it seemed odd to allow a player who has been required to start of late, to head out on loan.

Particularly in defence, Leeds have been struck by several simultaneous injuries, but Drameh's loan has been sanctioned nonetheless.

It was a former Cardiff City man currently at Elland Road who helped facilitate the move, according to Bluebirds boss and ex-Leeds striker Steve Morison.

"A lot went into it," Morison said of the transfer. "We had to produce a presentation for Leeds to show that we were the right team for him. We showed them how we could help him and his development," he told WalesOnline.

"They [Leeds] don't just want to send players anywhere just for the sake of sending them. They are doing their due diligence in terms of who they are sending them to and why."

Supposedly, ex-City defender Andrew Taylor was sufficiently impressed by Cardiff's presentation.

Taylor is currently loan manager at Leeds United, but featured over 100 times for the south Wales club between 2011 and 2014.

"We all know Andy Taylor, who used to play here, I knew him, the conversation starts there," Morison added.

"Then speaking to the players, the agents, you get a good opportunity to do good due diligence on the player.

"It was a real team effort in the end."

Drameh's introduction will add competition for places in the Bluebirds' defence, something Morison hopes to achieve at the very least.

"Bringing the likes of Cody in will hopefully see others push their game. Everyone knows they are one game away from not playing."

The Leeds loanee is most likely to challenge right wing-back Perry Ng for a place on the right-hand side of a back five between now and the end of the season.
