Another City player joins the out of contract list:

Postby Forever Blue » Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:21 am

Leandro Bacuna is out of contract this summer. Was initially thought he had 18 months left to run, but his deal actually expires June 2022.

That now makes 10 Cardiff players whose contracts run out this summer.

Huge few months (and off-season) lie ahead.

It means Bacuna joins Sean Morrison, Joe Ralls, Aden Flint, Will Vaulks, Marlon Pack, Ciaron Brown, Josh Murphy, Isaac Vassell and Alex Smithies as players who have only five months left to run on their deals.

So for any Cardiff manager next season they will be able clear the desks and the final big earners will be gone.

Interesting. He signed January 2019 on a five year contract I thought?

This has made my day as I think Leandro just hasn't been able to nail down a position within the team and has been nothing more than a utility player who can turn out in a number of positions a bit like Callum Patterson. Add his wages to that and he is a needless luxury within the squad. I's much rather Callum Paterson every day of the week.

Sorry a poor mans Callum Patterson.

Nothing against him personally but thats a huge relief as his wages are way too high for somebody who offers literally nothing to the team whatsoever besides a new hairstyle to see every week. Him, Vassell, Tomlin.... those 3 alone being off the wage bill whilst having given us next to nothing for the past 2-3yrs will be a saving of over £3m a year. Its crazy.

Don't really like slagging off our own players but he's on around £25k per week, contributed 4 goals and 3 assists in 115 games and no manager seems to know where to play him. Best for both parties if he leaves in the summer and tries to kickstart his career somewhere else.

Let’s not go crazy Annis. Still £3.5 million and three year deal.

A full rebuild, most could probably go and be replaced with cheaper and better except Smithies and Ralls?

I agree Neil ,

I was being sarcastic, yet again they wasted more money as they said the over saw all these deals and had to agree the contracts, not the managers.

I think Malky and Warnock had too much influence on transfers including wages.

Perhaps we should let them all go I think they have all underperformed except the keeper, however he is well overpaid.

as much as i dislike the transfer comitee, this was a Warnock signing, and i believe (i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong) Bacuna and Warnock shared the same Agent.

NW made a lot of really strange signings with his time at us, whether it be players who most of us could see weren't good enough, questionable fee's/wages paid, and or players who would never of suited his style.

both manager and board were awful in our transfer activities

Yep Warnock certainly made some strange decisions on the transfer front:

Madine, Glatzel, Murphy, Bacuna, Cunningham, Tomlin (he never played him), Decordova-Reid (never played him), Vaulks (never played him), Paterson Whyte, Camp, the two McKay brothers, etc. Some look well dodgy !!

He was pretty good when not spending money though !! Bamba, Hoilett, etc.

Paterson was a class signing for 400k.

Reid and Murphy both looked decent at times in the prem but you are right didn’t support them.

The Paterson one is probably the strangest of all for me. Now take all sentiment out of it. We all loved pato. And he turned out to be a good signing. However. He was signed injured with a long term injury as a right back and after I think. 1 training session. Warnock came out and said the lad can't defend. We got lucky he could do a job uptop. But it begs the question. Who scouted him. Who wanted to sign him and did warnock even watch him.
