Just goes to show that its the most pointless and misused of all the stats. Possession can often mean the side is knocking the ball around at the back with little idea of how to break a side down.

Agreed. Some games possession works sometimes it doesn't. You have to be able to mix and match.

Look at Liverpool on Sunday. They had around 87% possession for over an hour and it was still 0-0. They bring on a big centre forward, go direct and score 2 goals to win pretty comfortably !!

However, it is important to be able to retain possession better if you need to, particularly if you are in front in a game. As, whilst there are many great tactics to use, I've yet to see a team able to score without the ball :lol: :lol:
