After 3 consecutive defeats Steve Morison updates Cardiff City fans;

Tuesday 26th April 2022

So it’s project reset?

STEVE MORISON:

"Of course it is. We champion the young players and they have been excellent. No matter what anyone says, they are not Championship players yet, still a long way to go for many of them."

There is a reality to it and we understand the reality and for me it’s a really exciting future.

Morison

Shows the scale of the job you have? Root and branch changes, club needs totally over hauling from first team to the Under 23's?

STEVE MORISON:

"Yeah! It’s great and it’ll be exactly what is needed for the football club. I cannot wait to walk in here on the 22nd of June and everything being fresh and new. A new impetus, a new environment."

'its needed a big overhaul."

STEVE MORISON:

How you looking ahead of tomorrow?

"Morale is fine! Player availability, Rallsy is definitely out, he won’t play again this year. Isaak, too soon for him.

Cody is going to try and train today, see how he gets on. I think that’s it. Uche can’t play against Middlesbrough.

That’s it outside of what it was Saturday."

Morison

Players out of contract, your mind made up?

"My mind is made up. It’s been made up for a while. We have to keep performing.

We had a goal and that was to get safe, whether people were going to be here or not.

We’d be able to play the likes of Ollie Denham, to see how close he is to being one of the four or five centre-halves next year.

We have tried different shapes. It’s a strange time of year, you’ll get up and down performances. My mind has been made up for a while on where we are going.

I am quite clear in where we want to go and how we get there. I just can’t fast-forward time!"

Must-win game for Boro, chance for you to get into form?

"We are not going to worry about them. We worry about ourselves. It’s on TV and a great game to play in.

We will go up and give a good account of ourselves.

Everything is building towards the summer.

We just want to win games. It annoys you when people question whether you are trying to win games. I’ll try and pick the best team I can for the game with the players I’ve got available."

Joe Ralls?

"We are so close to the end of the season, anything over 10 days and that’s it. It’s the same with Isaak, he might be all right for Birmingham, he might not. It’d just be a couple of weeks, a couple of long journeys, you just get the niggles."

STEVE MORISON:

What do you expect from Boro?

"They’ve been doing all right. They did all right at the weekend, they just didn’t take their chances.

This is their game in hand, they are right in the mix. They are a really good team. It’s no different to our game on Saturday.

They are competing at that end of the table for a reason. They had a good window and brought in some good players from Brighton and Arsenal.

Hopefully this time next year we will be in that position.

It’ll be a great test."

Tan is clutching at straws here, we’ve lost the first court case, let’s win our appeal first. Buying Sala was never going to guarantee our Premier League status, madness was nice again.
Sala might have helped us, sadly No one really knows now.

We honestly don’t need any more court cases, in the last 12 yrs , we have had now more than 7 costing our club £millions.

Cardiff City 'want Nantes to pay £80MILLION in compensation after claiming Emiliano Sala's death in plane crash led to their relegation from the Premier League'.

Cardiff are suing FC Nantes and lawyers costs alone will run in to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Another costly court case to Our club in my opinion:
We’ve not won the case to prove Emiliano Sala was not our player so we don’t have to pay the £15mill owed to FC Nantes.

Cardiff City are seeking a huge £80million compensation package from French club Nantes after claiming that Emiliano Sala's death resulted in them being relegated from the Premier League, according to reports.

Daily Mail

Tuesday 26th April 2022

Sala was due to sign for Cardiff in January 2019, but died in a plane crash on his way to finalising the transfer.

The Bluebirds went on to be relegated from the top-flight four months later, finishing two points behind 17th-placed Brighton, and the club's manager at the time of Sala's death, Neil Warnock, felt the striker's goals could have kept them up.

The Welsh outfit are now pushing for £80m from Nantes, which they believe they lost in TV rights, advertising and sponsorship after dropping down to the Championship.

Cardiff are now counter suing FC: Nantes who are suing for the £15mill fee for Emiliano Sala.

Cardiff has based their claim on the Carlos Tevez case from 2007 - Sheffield United were paid a hefty compensation fee after West Ham broke third-party player ownership rules

Cardiff has based their claim on the Carlos Tevez case from 2007 - Sheffield United were paid a hefty compensation fee after West Ham broke third-party player ownership rules

Tevez scored seven goals in the second half of the 2006-07 season to keep West Ham in the Premier League at Sheffield United's expense.

Sheffield United wanted West Ham to be docked points, which would have allowed the Blades to stay in England's top division.

However, they eventually settled on a compensation fee worth £26.5m. Cardiff are now seeking a much higher figure, which includes approximately £20m in parachute payments.

"It’s been on the cards for a while. It just took someone to really buy into it and push it. It’s what I firmly believe in.

I still would have had the same beliefs even if I wasn’t in this job. Does it have to be painful at times? Yes. We are going to lose games. I will take losing them now rather than July 30, when we can be judged properly.

Lots of stuff goes on that no one ever sees. I suppose that’s what hurts you the most, when you hear and see a lot of the stuff that gets said about you, when really you’ve not got a clue, you are just speculating."

STEVE MORISON:

How hard is the challenge?

"It’s not going to be massively difficult. It’s having the acceptance that we are where we are from a budget point of view. It’s no point in me going to engage with people we can’t get. It just changes my angle of approach.

Characteristics, personality, of the players we want, that doesn’t change. It means you have to be more inventive, further afield. You might never have heard of any of them. They are going to have attributes to help us compete next year.

It sharpens your mind and your focus, rather than cast the net about players you can’t get close to!"

STEVE MORISON:

Can you use the mass exodus as a selling point for players coming in?

STEVE MORISON:

"It’s definitely a positive for players coming in.You’ll speak to a player and they always want to know where they want to fit in. When I talk to them I can be quite detailed to them. It’s there in black and white with our current situation.

There’s loads of really good conversations happening. It’s all in place but you can’t execute until June 1, when we can start adding people to the group."

STEVE MORISON:

Will court cases change your budget - if they fall in your favour?

STEVE MORISON:

"I haven’t had those conversations, we are just working within a remit of what market we are in from a wage point of view. We know the number of players who we need to come in."

"If it changes we will adjust accordingly, I’m just going to just deal with the facts."

Ollie Denham, can he be a first-team centre-back next year?

STEVE MORISON:

"Yeah he has been excellent. He was excellent in the Liverpool game."

"We kept him and didn’t want him to go on loan, we knew we could stick him in if we had an injury crisis. He is really comfortable on the ball. He has played in two big games, I think he has handled himself fantastically."

Defenders good on the ball top of your priority list?

It always has to be a defender first. It’s like a goalkeeper, if he’s good with his feet but can’t stop the ball going in his goal there is no point!

Being good on the ball, 1v1 situations, athleticism, strength, if you’re not all four, are you three out of the four? Ollie, he has been excellent, a real plus point. Bramall Lane, playing against those types of players, Morgan Gibbs-White, those types of players.I’m pleased.

He is not quite ready yet. If Cody doesn’t make it then we will adjust somewhere else. I wouldn’t do that to Jai, they need to be ready. I don’t think he is quite ready for the Riverside, under the lights and on TV on a Wednesday night! But he will get there, just not yet.

Joe Ralls could have played his last Cardiff City game as he is ruled out for the season

The midfielder was substituted at half-time in the defeat by Sheffield United at the weekend and is out of contract this summer

Cardiff City's Joe Ralls is out for the season

Joe Ralls might have played his final game for Cardiff City, with the out-of-contract midfielder having been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The midfielder has struggled with injuries this season, the latest of which, a side strain, kept him out of the Easter games against Hull City and Luton Town. However, he was substituted at half-time against Sheffield United up at Bramall Lane at the weekend after complaining of a tight groin.

It was hoped he might be back to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Wednesday night, however manager Steve Morison has confirmed the player is out for the final three games of the campaign.

"Rallsy is definitely out, he won’t play again this year," Morison said. " We are so close to the end of the season, anything over 10 days and that’s it. It’s the same with Isaak [Davies], he might be all right for Birmingham, he might not. It’d just be a couple of weeks, a couple of long journeys, you just get the niggles."

Cardiff are still in talks with Ralls over signing a new contract and that things on that front are certainly not a foregone conclusion as things stand.

Success come down to coaching?

STEVE MORISON:

"No, it’ll come down to recruitment. We have got to recruit the right players. I’m not bringing anyone in because we need a number. The coaching, the tactics, that comes down to our decisions, team lineups. I’m never going to ask players to do something I don’t want them to do.

You can hold me responsible if I’ve brought someone in who is completely different to what I’ve said. It would mean I’ve not done it properly."

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON: ' TUESDAY 26TH APRIL 2022 '

Starting on a level playing field now?

STEVE MORISON:

"The recruitment guys do all the analysis on the players. It’s down to us as staff to make final decisions on those players.

You can’t ask players to do something they are not physically capable of doing. If I am wanting to evolve the football club to a progressive one, for example the recruitment team went to watch Brighton and Chelsea this week to touch base. We are now an option for them because of the change in style - previously we weren’t.

We can now go and compete in the league just because of the change in style. Now we need to bring players in to suit that style.

I want to press all over the pitch, but I can’t do that if I’ve got players who can’t do that. I couldn’t do it when I played! So I had to play in teams who were pragmatic, who hit teams on the counter-attack. So, we tried it under Neil [Harris] and we lost 6-0 to Coventry! Regardless of what anyone says, we, comfortably, stayed in this league. We did it emphatically, with an inexperienced manager, coaching team, players out of contract, a bunch of young kids, we didn’t do too badly.

Now we have the opportunity to build something of our own with substance, for the benefit of the football club, for the benefit of the fans, so we don’t have situations like this again.

We are at the start of a cycle now and it’s got to continually evolve over the years.

If we lower the wage bill, change the dynamic, age of the group, then there’s a continuation. We can make money and do all sorts of things and it’s all in our control."

Cody and Tommy examples that you can play in a different style?

STEVE MORISON:

"Absolutely. That’s why we will utilise the loan market to add the quality we can’t on permanents.

This planning is all about the stuff people don’t see, meetings, Zooms, conversations to put ourselves on the list. We have to put ourselves on the list, which we haven’t done before. We have to show them where we are, what we are trying to achieve, what we are trying to get to.

STEVE MORISON:

"Decisions have been made, whether Joe is on that list or not, you guys will find out then. There’s not a lot I can say on it. I don’t think Joe would want a testimonial at 28 years old! It’s not something he will be looking at. Sean Morrison is out until November. Even if it was a roundabout way I’m not going to give you anything on his contract."
