‘ Steve Morison / Cardiffs 1st signing ? ‘

Postby wez1927 » Wed May 11, 2022 1:26 pm

As Steve Morison wants the Cardiff fans to get excited this Summer Jak Alnwick is expected to be the first signing this Summer.

Updated:

ST MIRREN goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is close to signing a deal to join Cardiff City from next season.

Alnwick has always wanted to play in the Championship.

Jak Alnwick, St. Mirren this coming June is out of contract , available on a free.

29 yrs old next month, last few clubs played for St.Mirren , Blackpool, Scunthorpe, Bradford, Gateshead , Port Vale , 6 appearances for Rangers (3yrs) 2017-2020.

Not sure how good he is but over the years we've pulled some good keepers from the Scottish league .

Well if SM wants us Cardiff fans to get excited about the transfer market, then he has to do better than that.

Speak for yourself you silly boy. We hadn't heard of Etheridge until he came here and that didn't work out too bad.

You do know he was talking about the TYPE of players he was bringing in and NOT the number of World Cup medals they have?

Could be number 2 for Dillon Phillips and he’s Cheap.

Who the f**k do you think you are calling someone a silly boy? Did I say he was a bad player? No I did not. But he’s certainly not a name to be excited about is he? Look at his previous clubs and his age. Very underwhelming.

Quite right.

It may not be a headline grabbing signing but it's a statement of intent getting it done so early.

I'd never heard of Ron Healey, Bill Irwin, Andy Dibble, Gavin Ward, Etheridge, etc., before we signed them. Doesn't make it a bad signing.

Anyone know if he's the type of keeper who's good with the ball on the deck ? Might be a clue as to whether he will be a 1st choice or back-up keeper.

Ah, there’s always one. So because I’m not excited by a keeper in the Scottish league with a very uninspiring track record, im now expecting World Cup winners. That’s a good one.

A proven championship keeper would be a good start.

No offence but where have you been? We are letting go a good championship keeper and like I said before we haven't done too bad recruiting from the lower leagues.

Plays out from the back given chance which would be nice but tad worried that his ambition is to play in the championship.
But as always, Welcome and good luck son.

I’m sure there’s a proven championship goalkeeper available for our suppose wage cap. Adam Davies is out of contract at the end of the season. I’d rather him to be honest.

P.S. No need for personal insults if you disagree with another poster. It just makes you come across as a knob ;)

"Jak Alnwick 'rejects' Aberdeen and Hibs as St Mirren keeper bound for English Championship"

This was the headline in the Scottish Daily Record (equivalent to the english Daily Mirror) on 1st April 2022. Link below.

For what is likely competition for our No1, this is a perfectly fine signing

Lets be honest hardly anybody gets exited about a goalkeeper
probably the last on the list
so perhaps we are going to do the list in reverse order
building up to a crescendo with bale the last to sign.

Was just checking you knew what Morison was talking about when he said "excited".

Would hate for the confusion to spoil your Summer if you were expecting "exciting" names.

I wouldn’t have responded in that manner had he not resorted to a personal insult just from giving my opinion. (Not that I said he was a terrible keeper by the way). Simple as that really.

In the last year of his contract so I'd say pretty much any offer and he will be gone. In my opinion the same goes for Nelson, Bagan, Bowen and Harris.
