Cardiff City have held talks with Callum O’Dowda from Bristol City who has been released

Made 160 appearances for Bristol City , the winger scored 8 goals.

Bristol told O’Dowda in April he could leave and were not activating his 12 month option.

Updated:

Heard Cardiff have offered Callum O’Dowda from Bristol City a contract and he is thinking about it, wages is sticking point.

Last played for Republic Ireland 2 years ago.

Cardiff City are chasing the Republic of Ireland international’s signature, Bristol Live understands.

Bristol City confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old would be departing Ashton Gate after six years with the club as his contract expires at the end of June.

O’Dowda was informed at the end of April that the Robins would not be activating the 12-month option in his contract but they were debating whether to offer him reduced terms amidst wide interest among their rivals in the left winger.

That doesn’t appear to have transpired and instead the former Oxford United prospect is available on the free market, but is expected to make a decision on his next destination this week.

Another Robbins reject! Like Flint, Reid and Pack. If he's not good enough for them he's not good enough for us. Nothing special, infact prob not as good as what we already have.

Not a player I'd be too keen on.

However, we do have to accept that we're not only looking to bring in first teamers but back-ups too, due to the big turnover this summer.

On that basis I have no big issue with him adding to the squad.

This.

When he first joined them, I was dreading seeing his name on the teamsheet against us. Quick and tricky with an eye for goal. I’m sure not many people knew who NML was when he signed but he turned out to be a really shrewd signing and I’m sure he was only signed as a squad player but performed so well at the start of the season that Warnock couldn’t leave him out.

He’s a winger aswell which we all know we are very light on atm. regardless of if he played for the Wurzels or not. I’d happily have him as part of the squad.

A bit harsh here. Plagued by niggles last season. From what I've seen he's decent at this level and if the gaffer wats him that's good enough for me.

I've heard he's good but am wary when I hear can Cardiff get the best out of him again, as we've been there before with the Wurzels. But if this is happening, SM would have run the rule over him which makes me confident based on his proven recruitment so far.

Cardiff City are keen on a move for free agent Callum O'Dowda and have offered him a contract, but face stern competition for his signature.

The 27-year-old was released by Bristol City on Monday, bringing an end to his six-year association with the Robins.

As first reported by BristolLive, the Bluebirds are indeed keen on a move for the Irishman, but face competition from other clubs.

BirminghamLive have since claimed that Birmingham City are one of those interested parties, with O'Dowda expected to make a decision on his future next week.

Reports across the Severn claim the winger was informed back in April that the club would not be activating the option to extend his current deal by a further 12 months.

Is that why we've so far signed a player from Scotland and another from Forest Green? :?
