UPDATED: DEADLINE AS KIRSCHNER'S DERBY BID CLOSE TO COLLAPSE

Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:36 am

The take over at Derby has collapsed I wonder if this is linked to us

Chris Kirchner's attempt to buy financially-stricken club Derby County is expected to collapse.

The American businessman was named as preferred bidder to take the club out of administration on 6 April.

BBC Radio Derby report that Kirchner has failed to close the deal, despite having his period as preferred bidder extended twice.

It is also understood that funds promised by the 34-year-old to pay Derby wages for May have not arrived.

The English Football League conditionally approved the takeover when contracts for the sale of the club had been exchanged on 17 May.

At the time, the EFL said "the terms of a Membership Agreement" had been agreed with the American's 9CK Sports Holdings Limited company to allow the sale of the club.

Derby's administrators Quantuma had said the takeover was conditional on the sale of Derby's Pride Park home ground, which is still owned by former majority shareholder Mel Morris.

Meetings between Kircher, his representatives, Morris and Derby City Council, who have said they were exploring options to buy the ground, have failed to resolve the issue.

If the deal does fall through, it will be the second time an attempt by Kirchner to buy the club has failed.

An initial bid was withdrawn in December before the American revived his interest in April after an attempt to buy Derby's then-Championship rivals Preston North End collapsed just days earlier.

From what I've been told by a Derby mate of mine who has been right on a few things before told me this guy has the money. The big issue regarding the sale, is Mel Morris is still playing hard ball regarding the stadium. Can't remember if he said it's because either Mel won't sell the stadium as part of the club deal. Or he's asking to much money for it. Not 100%. But because of that. This new guy only wants the club if the stadium is included in the sale. Therefore has now withheld money that was set to pay wages to the club. Putting the who takeover in jeopardy

Got to beare in mind Morris paid £80m for it what this guy is offering is basically buy the club but throw in stadium for free? It appears it doesn't matter what happens to club (thrown out efl or liquidated) Morris will still have stadium as an asset worth £50m+ in his portfolio.... this guy or any other buyers need to throw serious money at buying club quickly otherwise people will be buying a league 9 club with no ground !

Kirchner as until tomorrow to show he as money to buy derby or the deal is off and other parties will be contacted including mike Ashley..... the debt is £62m plus £80m price of stadium bought by Morris to cheat ffp...this as gone on to long they should be booted out if this was a small div 1 or 2 club they would be unquestionably.

It would seem that no one is clearing the debt and Ashley's offer would produce a further points deduction.

Morris never actually paid £80m for the stadium it was all put down as £80m on paper as a valuation, to avoid FFP rules, see where that got Derby!

Roger doesn't really matter at end day morris owns the stadium and that is valued at £80m and Morris is wanting his share of that ....remember this deal is failing because they cant give Morris what he wants for it? Before sale they were going to lose £60m+ after sale profit £14m... ridiculous situation that efl still keep moving dates for sale but now running out of time as there Is a cut off date for registration club for its competitions

It's an absolute shit show. Morris NEEDS the money for the stadium as he took a loan out with an American firm to "buy" it and they want their money back.

The Kirschner take over at Derby has been given until 5pm today (Friday 10th June 2022) to prove the money is in place or the plug is pulled

Mike Ashley the expected beneficiary, if that occurs...

Chris not sure Ashley will pay what is required for club had opportunity before Kirchner was preferred bidder? Whatever happened to cut off date are they going to bend rules to suit derby? Certainly wouldn't be doing it for smaller clubs

It as collapsed! Deadline past and receivers have ended the bid to take over derby ......other parties now being contacted but there is problems with the other parties returning to table as they've invested elsewhere! Ashley wont buy them because
he wont pay administrators the £3m fees.....Kirchner still says he's confident deal go through?? This is becoming a joke how much time are efl going to give them to keep the club alive when others have been allowed to disappear for less?

Read it was 3m but still a lot for several months work! Not sure how going to resolve situation as administrators wont talk to Ashley who in turn wont pay the fees incurred... as said other interested parties not in position to buy club anymore..... someone is going to have to concede very soon or club will go to wall as ssn reporter said its hours not days that could happen.

Derby County: Chris Kirchner withdraws bid to buy League One side -

Chris Kirchner has withdrawn his bid to buy League One side Derby County.

BBC Sport has been told Kirchner took the decision due to the difficulty he has had transferring funds to the UK.

Derby's administrators had given the American a deadline of 10 June to complete the deal and are now talking to other parties to find a buyer.

The Rams, managed by Wayne Rooney, were deducted 21 points during last season, finishing 23rd in the Championship to drop down to League One for 2022-23.

Derby have been in administration since September 2021 and Kirchner was named as preferred bidder on 6 April and granted exclusivity over the process.

Contracts were exchanged last month, but delays were encountered over completing the takeover, which was initially due to be done by 31 May. He then failed to meet Friday's deadline. set by administrators Quantuma.

Despite providing proof and sufficiency of funding to the English Football League and passing the governing body's owners & directors' test, Texas-based Kirchner was not able to conclude a deal with administrators.

A spokesperson on behalf of the joint administrators of the club said: "We're aware some will be concerned by this news, however, the joint administrators wish to reassure the club's staff, players and supporters they are continuing to actively engage with a growing number of interested parties, each of whom have a real willingness to complete a deal as soon as possible."

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is among those interested in buying Derby, who were English top-flight champions twice in the 1970s, European Cup semi-finalists in 1972-73 and last played in the Premier League in the 2007-08 season.

On Sunday, the EFL said it would become closely involved in the sale of the Rams in order to secure their future in the league.

Conditions suspending Derby's expulsion from the league, imposed when they went into administration, have been changed.

The EFL now wants to be informed of all discussions between Quantuma and potential bidders.

In a statement, the league said it was "increasingly concerned" the delays presented "a real risk to the integrity of next season's competition", with the EFL fixtures being released in less than a fortnight.

Confirming it had received notification of Kirchner's withdrawal, the EFL said on Monday evening it "reiterates its commitment, made over the weekend, to work proactively alongside the administrators of the club as they continue to engage with a number of interested parties, so that the objective of concluding a sale is achieved at the earliest possible opportunity."

Efl are procrastinating over this sale? Should never been allowed to go on for so long .... can they do all fit proper owners checks and everything else required for the sale of club before fixtures are out in 2wks ? Total shambles
