4th August 2022: Kion Etete Signs for the Bluebirds, three year contract.

Etete 21 years old in a couple of months, for £500,000. Spurs Only have a sell-on clause inserted into the deal.
Etete never featured for Tottenham.
The centre forward scored three goals in 13 League Two appearances for Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign, before adding another three strikes to his tally whilst featuring for Cheltenham Town in League One.

Cardiff City FC are delighted to welcome striker Kion Etete to the Club on a permanent transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, subject to clearance.

The striker, who will wear the number 9 jersey in the Welsh capital, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Cardiff City Stadium. He joins for an undisclosed fee.

Etete made his professional debut for Notts County in 2018, and went on to join Spurs the following year after a successful trial in North London.

The 20-year-old made 20 appearances for Tottenham’s U23 side in the PL2 during the 2020/21 campaign, scoring nine goals, before enjoying two successful loan spells in the EFL last season.

The centre forward scored three goals in 13 League Two appearances for Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign, before adding another three strikes to his tally whilst featuring for Cheltenham Town in League One.

Speaking after signing his agreement, Kion said: “It feels good to finally be here. The manager went into a lot of detail about the plan for the season, and how they want me to play. It’s my job to try and fulfil that. When the players know what the gaffer wants from them, it’s easier to put it into motion on the pitch.

“Obviously having gone from League Two to League One, the Championship is the next one. I just can’t wait to get started, get used to the level, and hopefully excel.

“I’ll always work hard for the team and the Club. Winning is the number one priority at the end of the day, and I’ll do as much as I can to fulfil that.”

City boss Steve Morison added: “I’m very happy. He’s an investment for the Club, and he’s got all the attributes to be a top striker.

“He’s strong, he’s quick, and he’s athletic. He will bring other players into the game, and he will run all day long. We’ve got a top player on our hands.

“He’s young, he’s hungry, and he’s a player that we see as ready now. He can get better and better, and we’ll like to see how far we can take him.”

Welcome to the Welsh capital, Kion!

Kion Etete Signs for the Bluebirds, three year contract.
Etete 21 years old in a couple of months.

The centre forward scored three goals in 13 League Two appearances for Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign, before adding another three strikes to his tally whilst featuring for Cheltenham Town in League One.

Striker Kion Etete will have a medical at #CardiffCity today ahead of completing a permanent move. The Bluebirds will pay Spurs £500,000.

Cardiff are signing Etete on a permanent move.

Medical booked in today, £500k fee with a Tottenham buy-back option inserted

Kion Etete will be 21 years old in a few months came through Notts County Accademy and signed for Tottenham and was with their U23’s for 2 years before being sent out on loan to Northampton in League:

6ft 4 Striker, with 5 goals in 3 years Notts County, Spurs, Northampton and Cheltenham.

Notts County 4 appearances 0 goals

Spurs 0 appearances

Northampton League 2 on loan 16 appearances 3 goals

Cheltenham League 2 on loan 7 appearances 2 goals

Etete scored 10 goals in 25 games for Spurs' under-21s side:

Cardiff are very keen on Spurs youngster Kion Etete. 6ft 4in striker, was on loan at Northampton and Cheltenham last season.

Cardiff have made contact with Spurs.

Has another year on his contract, so would cost a transfer fee.

The Bluebirds are in the market for two strikers this summer, with chairman Mehmet Dalman stating the ideal scenario would be to land one on a permanent basis and another, more experienced forward, on loan. You can read more about that here.

This is the type of striker Dalman would be interested in the club buying this season.

And Etete, 21 in a few months is a player Cardiff are targeting for a permanent move. The 6ft 4ins frontman, who spent the first half of last season on loan with Northampton Town in League Two and the second half in League One with Cheltenham Town, scored six goals across 30 league games last season.

Spurs decided earlier this summer they would be open to selling Etete after opting against him travelling to South Korea on their pre-season tour. The forward has been described as both physical, owing to his stature, and mobile.

Kion Etete will be 21 years old in a few months came through Notts County Accademy and signed for Tottenham and was with their U23’s for 2 years before being sent out on loan to Northampton in League:

Notts County 4 appearances 0 goals

Spurs 0 appearances

Northampton League 2 on loan 16 appearances 3 goals

Cheltenham League 2 on loan 7 appearances 2 goals

My Spanish Club in League 3 had two good players from Spurs U23 absolutely brilliant at this level and eventually Spurs gave them both to Atletico Baleares, Spurs do this regularly, hoping that one of or two will become great players if not they just let them go. That’s what they would of done with Ollie Tanner that’s why he was advised to turn them down.

No not proven at Championship level but capable in the lower leagues and he must have something about him to be on Spurs' books in the first place.

As long as we get an experienced striker to play alongside him I'd be ok with this signing

Be interesting to see what spurs value him at if they want to sell him. Maybe a fair fee with a sell on clause could work for both parties. I'd prefer this signing to the likes of Carrol who has been linked recently.

Well you say that but if Morison rates this guy a lot higher than Zimba who he knows really well then that’s good enough for me.

In all fairness SM has chosen his players quite well so far. Just worried we will be bringing someone in just for the sake of it.

He's done very well and being a Striker himself, he'll know exactly what we need and how we can supply the two new Strikers!

So far, he hasn't made a bad signing.
So fully trust him. Equally I like we are potentially investing on now and the future.

he is a big unit and they generally come into their own in their mid-twenties, but as everyone says the recruitment has been good for a while, I assume we have been following him as he was only just up the road.

I wouldn't let the Spurs thing influence our opinion as all these big clubs hoover up anyone with a modicum of talent hoping very occasionally they are good enough or generally to make money loaning them out and selling them on.

Mc Guinness was from Arsenal U21's, can he pass as you'd expect from an Arsenal Academy product?

Interesting time though :ayatollah:

I’d still take him over what we currently have though.

This 'rumour' was mentioned a few days ago...

Whether this particular one comes off or not, we have to trust Steve Morison's judgement on any he gets over the line :ayatollah:

Heres an article after his debut for Northampton:

"Debuts do not get much better. Outstanding all-round display. Bullied and bossed Coventry's defence all night long, just too strong and too powerful. Scored two very different goals, a brilliant solo effort and a scrappy close-range finish. Cobblers will hope this is a sign of things to come... 9.5 CHRON STAR MAN"

look forward to seeing him but its a big gamble ...young ,cheap and hopefully it pays off but lack of experience and not many goals to show so a lot of pressure on him as we need goalscorers, lets hope we bring in an experienced player now with a pedigree of scoring as we look very light up top.

All of those people above saying that this is a risk were saying the same about Collins, Kipre, Romeo, O'Dowda, Tanner, etc.

Of course it's a risk until a player proves themselves, but how much more does Morison have to do in the transfer market before people actually back his judgement ?

What we should be saying is that unlike signing a Madine, Carroll journeyman we have now signed an exciting prospect from Spurs for £500k. That seems a pretty minimal gamble even if he turns out to be c*$p.

Time to give Morison and the recruitment team some credit and trust them I think :bluebird: :bluescarf:

Having a medical today! Brilliant :bluebird:

I believe we are only 1 maybe 2 players short of a very capable squad. (1 more striker and 1 CB if I'm being greedy)

When was the last time we were able to say that?!

I did say originally, we needed big powerful Strikers like Nathan Ellington and Jason Roberts, Morison indicated he was going more for a McCormack fast little Striker, sounds like he's gone for the big powerful fast Striker this time, so maybe the next will be a McCormack type?

The good thing is Morison being a Striker himself can hopefully develop them and get the best from them :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Pleased with this. Yes his goal scoring record in League 1 / 2 wasn’t great, but Harry Kanes wasn’t when he went on loan either. Much rather him than Andy Carroll. Good news!
