Ryan Allsop

Is it me or does anyone else think he is slightly overrated?

I have watched him closely at games this season i there have been so many times where he does not come to claim the ball when I think he should have.

Also has one of the lowest save percentages in the league. He is better with his feet than what we have had previously and maybe i am seeing it different to other fans but just my opinion.

He's deffo missed some saves.

Will get caught too, messing about at the back, plus
That slowing down allows their defence to regroup.
Also his long distribution is awful.

Not great, needs to sort it out...

When Andy Dibble left, he gave a cryptic clue that he may return if circumstances change. I wonder if he now will at some point with what's happened?

Totally agree with you, he is overrated, I felt that some of the goals let in would have been saved by other keepers, spends a lot of the time watching the ball go in instead of trying to make a save

Glad i wasn't the only one seeing it. So many times i wonder why he hasn't come out to claim it and the opposition comes close to scoring, it happens multiple times a game

Agreed his positional game is excellent and he took a good few crosses early on when he first came here, and obviously he is very good playing on the floor with his feet and and playing the ball out from the back.

I have also noticed shot stopping looks weaker than Smithies and I don't like him standing so far off his line, it's only a matter of time before he concedes from a long shot in our opponants half.

Smithies was a better keeper imo but was on a reputed £30K a week. No brainier really.

Been saying this and had concerns from 10 or so games in. He doesn't command his area and fills me with no confidence at all.
We've been lucky with keepers over the years and imho the 2 we've got now are the worst we've had for ages. Although the bar was pretty high

Loosing Andy dibble was such a shame knows the club very well and i thought he was doing a good job.
Keeper isnt up to much unfortunately.
We been spoilt over the years with good keepers .
Not outstanding but does a job we need better like all other departments on the pitch .

We've been spoiled with the level of our keepers over the years & it shows now we have what we deserve given our position.

SM brought Allsop in as he apparently could use his feet better than our then current keepers which I didn't buy at the time as you have to be a decent ball player to be a GK as you progress along the elite path. I was told from a reliable source on here that Smithies would have taken a pay cut and wanted to stay and I also thought it very odd that SM got ride of Dibs, as both are excellent. We've blessed in for GK's for a decade and its been our consistently strongest position and Allsop is OK but no better than what we had with Smithies and a few have mentioned to me about some shot stopping where he maybe could of done better plus he does have a tendency to give us at least one panic a game when he does something fancy with the ball at his feet but its never resulted in a disaster.

So he's OK but TBH I would have preferred Smithies, he just gave you more reassurance I think but we all know our key issue this season has not been our GK or defence, its been up the sharp end and that's the area that needs to be continually addressed.

And I'd love to see Dibs back too. The guy SM brought in left after a tomato season as wants to work in the media and Dibs is a first class GK coach and well versed in the 'modern' game and also a very positive influence to have around the club on many levels.

Don't rate him personally and hopefully a new keeper for next season depending on our circumstances.
