‘ Ollie Tanner set to leave / Plus 6 other City players ‘

Fri Jan 06, 2023 12:42 pm

Surely Ollie Tanner who apparently was going to be one of our great signings according to Glenn Williams aka Dalman / Boris should be going on loan to a league 1 club not a struggling non league club.

Higher standard of football he needs, otherwise we will hear how amazing Tanner is once again in the Non League.
Cardiff City play in the Championship:

Tanner will be 21 yrs old when he returns to the Bluebirds, all these 20,21,22 year olds are not kids that Glenn Williams keeps describing them as, he even calls Mark Harris aged 24 a young kid, by now they should all be either good enough for League 1 or the Championship.

For me Tanner should be going to a higher league if he really is that good?

We keep sending the players out and 1 in 20 seem to return better, most don’t make it.

THREE OTHER CARDIFF PLAYERS GOING OUT ON LOAN:

Max Watters has, of course, sealed a move to Barnsley in League One. It's a level he thrived at last season with MK Dons and City hope he can find the back of the net regularly again over the next few months. Because, for whatever reason, it just hasn't worked for him in the Championship at Cardiff.

Striker Max Watters aged 24: 21 appearances / 1 goal for the Bluebirds.

We also learned that James Crole would step up to senior football and is good enough for the Championship, but instead will drop into Non-League with Torquay United, where Kieron Evans is currently impressing. Mark Hudson has a good relationship with assistant manager Aaron Downes at Plainmoor and the club are confident the loan can be beneficial to the 18-year-old.

Finally, Vontae Campbell is primed to leave the club on loan this month. Even with Mahlon Romeo's injury, Cardiff believe they have enough options in Tom Sang and Ng, especially after McGuinness' recall, to cover that right-back position.

Campbell has struggled to really make an impact since signing from Leicester City in the summer window and the club are keen for him to go out there and get some regular first-team football. A deal for him to leave does not appear close as things stand, though.

Annis I can't believe we haven't at least given Tanner a run.
Or was morison a manager who thought he knew everything but really knew sweet fa?

Jules,

I am with you, either Tanner is good enough or not, at least should of been on the bench and brought on a couple of times to see f the kid is good enough.

My mate is the manager of a club in Lewis FC league and said Tanner is a very good non league player and that’s it.

But Williams & Boris made out he was a star.

We keep getting bullshitted by Boris PR in the local Media.

Well Annis if a manager is saying that's his level WTF did we buy him for? Sounds like more dodgy dealing to me again as where are all these superstars that morison fetched to the club because of him.

I hope so, I honestly don’t rate him, league 1 at best.

I just think Tanner needs a good run of games like our other youngster McGuiness. He needs fitness rather than technical coaching and I'm sure he'll return all the better for it.

Is anyone else a bit worried about all these players leaving the club when there is some suggestion that as we are under an embargo which means that we cannot sign or loan any other players?

If that is correct and we keep sending players out of the club then the playing squad will be on the bones of it's arse and a few injuries or suspensions may mean that Hudson might have to put himself and Dean Whitehead on the bench.

I’m not worried at all, why worry about something you can do nothing about?

His technical ability is beyond doubt, perhaps his attitude/dedication is wrong but I'm just guessing.

Not really; but I am disappointed at Ollie Tanner and James Crole going out and at the levels some 'promising' players are heading to

There are players coming in, despite the embargo, and it is right for players like Nelson, Watters and others to move on to allow (hopefully) better (or more fitting) players to come in

Not sure from the article where Tanner is heading but it should be Football League, if we are to gain anything from doing so

Part of the problem with Tanner is that he hasn't had an opportunity to show he could step up. He was a target for Spurs before we went in, so he cannot be that bad and I thought he did pretty well against a competitive (under the circumstances) Villa side in the PW7 match :ayatollah:

Agree with you about Tanner.

I am completely confused about what we can and can't do player wise. You say that there are players coming in despite the embargo but could you clarify how that is please?

I thought the FIFA embargo meant we couldn't bring anyone in?

My head hurts!

I think all our heads are hurting!

My understanding is that the club can hokd a maximum of 23 'senior' players, which explains the mini exodus of players like Watters and Nelson

We can then sugn 'unattached' (or non-contract) players and/or 'loanees' where no fee is involved and where the Bluebirds cannot contribute to the wages of such a player, i.e. the full wages must be picked up by the parent club

Under the latter conditions, I feel we can only realistically attract youngesters on loan in a similar way we did with Drameh and others last season

Apparently L2 clubs did enquire to loan Tanner. A team in a higher league doesn't guarantee a better move. Playing more minutes in the conference is better than less minutes in L2. These boys have the technical ability, its the getting used to the rough and tumble of competitive football is what they gain from these loans.

We need to remember that even playing in the conference is a number of leagues above what Tanner was playing in. Due to his age he is playing catching with coaching/conditioning a lot of the other academy players have been receiving from a younger age.

Chris, how can another club pay all a players wages if the are unattached or out of contract?Thought that meant they didn't have a club.

No, mate. I meant the could sign freebies OR sign loanees; the latter of which (loanees) their parent club has to pay the wages :ayatollah:

Chris, I’m sure it’s we can’t pay a loanee more than his parent club?

No chance of the part-time bosses working that out in his two day week.

Bluebirds winger Ollie Tanner is close to agreeing a loan move away from the club.

York City appear to have won the race for his signature.

A number of teams registered an interest in the 20-year-old, including League Two outfit Harrogate Town, however it was believed York's plan for him and how he fitted into the side would be more conducive to his progress over the coming months.

When asked about Tanner's ability in Thursday's press conference, Hudson, who admitted a deal for him to leave was close, said of the player: "We have worked on him and the physios have done a brilliant job. The beginning of the season was the first time he came back into full-time football and then he got injured.

"I got back to it. He could only do 60 minutes and then not train for three or four days. So we built him up to play 90 minutes and then train regularly after. Then play 90 again. He is looking physically stronger. If a deal does come forward, I spoke to Ollie about finding the right one for him.

"The next progression for him is to find a better level than he was playing before (at Lewes) and to go and impact that. We will find the right club for him. He is a great kid who has worked so hard."

Jack Leahy aged 20 is likely to join either Non League Maidstone or Worthing FC on loan after having offers from Northern Ireland and also the Cymru Premier.

Jack Leahy has shone for the Cardiff City U21's, many thought he might get a call up to the first team squad, but Hudson wants to send him out on loan.
A decision on whether Leahy’s contract is renewed or not will be based on how he performs on loan, says Mark Hudson.

That's not true Chris, we can pay the wages of the loan player but we can't pay a loan fee or more than the contract is of the parent club .so if there on 10 k a week we can pay that but can't go over that , as some loans personal terms would be better than there contracts at there club .

Tanner one is a strange one, i understand he's come from part time football into football football and that will take a toll on the body and conditioning, so i can understand maybe not starting, from what i've seen of him, he looks good, he's ahead of Ojo for me, but i personally think if we were mid table, and safe, we'd probably see more of him. the fact we're in a relegation scrap will mean Hudson won't try and bleed youth through as he cannot allow the team to carry a player if they're playing catch up. A loan will be brilliant for him, i am surprised a league one or two side haven't come in for him.

as for Nelson, unfortunately this isn't his level. when we lost to Hull at home this season, the Cardiff city tv commentator even said along the lines of "Hull city are playing a high press, but are more than happy to allow Nelson time on the ball" that summed him up for me

He just needs to play at the lowest full-time professional level he can. He needs to be playing twice a week every week, he looks miles of championship
