TAN & DALMAN : My reading of Dalman’s interv

TAN & DALMAN :


My reading of Dalman’s interview is that there is some tension and a difference of opinion about key matters between Tan and Dalman. This is in principle unhealthy for any organization .

However , what comes out from Dalman’s interview is that he is now expressing his disagreement publicly and openly. Hudson …..ask Tan . New manager ….we need an experienced leader ….but Tan wants to give Whitehead a chance .


New manager appointment ….the decision is Tan’s . The running of the Club…..I am not an executive ….therefore look for Choo (which 100% means Tan).


Reading between the lines , I believe, that Dalman is fed up with Tan and wants out …but for some reason he can’t leave …. or Tan is not in a position to remove him .


I believe that Tan needs Dalman far more than Dalman needs Tan. In the relationship Dalman is stronger .

Tan’s character is such that he does not like that one bit and will be biding his time .


Remember both TG and Malky were removed because of Tan’s jealousy of them being the stars and loved by the fans (my opinion).

Agree with this. Dalman in that interview was definitely trying to not take the blame for anything:

Didn't sign off on Sala, not an executive anymore, Choo the one who runs the club day to day, didn't want Morison or Hudson in charge, wants an experienced manager but Tan wants to give Whitehead time, not for him to say why Hudson was sacked because not his decision etc.

Of course hard to believe a word the politician Dalman says but does seem there are tensions between him and the owner at the moment. They're all to blame I believe for the situation we're in as a club.

Annis I agree with you, the corporate structure is broken, hence the short-termism and lack of strategy. The person at the top has to trust the CEO to run the business long term, create a strategy and execute that, if it fails then change the CEO... but give them freedom and authority to make decisions. This is not the culture Tan promotes, from outside it appears to be one of fearing making the wrong decision.

Tan also has to adjust his approach, it is not a normal business where everything is a corporate secret, some things are to protect negotiating positions for things like transfers but a lot needs to be open.

It is not a transactional business like a hotel, KFC or McDonalds that he's used to, it is an entertainment business that create very very strong emotional connections with the customers... US! That demands a different approach.

If we look back and learn from owners, managers, board members that we've respected and in some cases idolised.... They all engaged in a open way with their customers... The fans! Tan learn from what works.

Would love to know what dalman actually does for his hefty salary. It appears he has no responsibilities whatsoever. We could get someone from the job center at a fraction of the cost and just tell the to divert attention to someone else.

Agree with the summary, it's been evident since MDs interview in the summer. His passing the buck and diverting all blame to VT says a lot, sort of slowly hanging him out to dry and distancing himself from him. I just wonder if a prominent thought on MDs mind is softening the ground for a future takeover led by him, as he was going to buy Charlton, so he's definitely up for something like it. I maybe completely wide of the mark on that but he's an investment banker by trade and takeovers/restructures and eventual flips is one part of that. Just a thought.

The most worrying part of that interview is the fact they are willing to give Whitehead a chance before appointing a new manager, we haven't got time be be giving out chances we need results NOW!!

the remark about transfers is very confusing. saying they all agreed on targets, and because DW is there, they will still go for them. that surely means, those players were identified to play a certain style of football. if we did end up going to get the likes of big sam, or Warnock back, those players wouldn't probably suit that style. so our next managerial appointment has to be in line with how Morison and Hudson wanted to play

It definitely seems that Dalman is frustrated in his job seems like hes banging head against a wall.Seems hes had enough well we all have .
He seems frustrated about the situation with the manager and why not.
Why do the club sack morrison and give his assistant a go then sack hudson and give his assistant a go .
We are not being run properly its a joke and i think Dalman knows it but Tan makes all the decisions which is why we are where we are.
Fans board and players very frustrated at mo .
How can you sack another manager and not have another in place .No clue or direction from Tan at all .He is never gonna change now is he and i think many people have had enough thats why we are in the shit .
Tea lady to the chief executive need to all be in tune for results on the pitch start to follow .Issue is nobody knows whats gonna happen next that has all the ingredients for relegation. Thats the way dalman comes across to me to be honest
