THIS JUST CANT CONTINUE & NEEDS TO BE SORTED NOW

Sun Jan 22, 2023 10:29 am

Even reporter Glen Williams had opened his eyes and is saying how bad it is:

It was a gloomy day at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, both literally and figuratively.

By GLEN WILLIAMS

Sunday 21st January 2023

City supporters driving from the outskirts of the city that day, or indeed the travelling Millwall fans from London, left their homes with blue skies above them, by the time they arrived at the ground, blue had turned to a moody, misty grey.

An afternoon which began with protests outside the stadium's reception, and ended with boos ringing out at the final whistle.

The fans are furious at the club's situation, the team is without a manager, the attack cannot buy a goal for love nor money and the Bluebirds haven't won a football match since Elon Musk launched an $8 blue tick subscription service for Twitter. Some fans protest, but many vote with their feet and just don’t come to the Stadium anymore.

Most right-minded fans do not take pleasure in constantly berating of their club. But we have reached crisis point now, where dropping into the relegation zone is not in Cardiff's hands anymore. They sit three points above Huddersfield Town, who occupy the final spot in the bottom three, but the Terriers have two games in hand on the Bluebirds.

It is not outrageous to say that the next week will go a long way to deciding the club's future. They need a manager in, reinforcements at the top end of the pitch and, most importantly, some points on the board to inject some much-needed positivity into the suffering fan base.

Millwall boss Gary Rowett even commented on the atmosphere, or lack thereof, inside Cardiff City Stadium during his side's 1-0 win over the Bluebirds this weekend. He said it made it far easier for his team to stick to their game plan and see out the match.

The most audible chants during the match were songs about wanting the owner and board out, while boos rang out at half-time and at full time.

That's not the fans' fault, either, it must be said. This is a situation which has been bubbling for a long time, given they have witnessed a perennial, managed decline in recent years.

Even positive news stories about young players bursting on the scene and making an impact have dissipated. Joel Bagan's confidence looks utterly shot, Oliver Denham is nowhere to be seen after consecutive injury setbacks. The jewels in the academy crown, Isaak Davies and Rubin Colwill, have stagnated due to lack of game-time and their own injury strife.

Since Colwill made his Cardiff debut, the club have played 8,910 minutes of football, he has played just 2,521 of those, meaning he has been on the pitch just 28.3 percent of the time since Mick McCarthy brought him on against Coventry in February 2021. Given he was likely earmarked at the beginning of the season to shoulder much of the creative burden, he has scarcely been seen. And when he is played, he is out of position on the left wing, but that's a different point all together.

Saturday must represent a line in the sand. Dean Whitehead said a new striker was close to joining the club, while a managerial appointment must be made sooner rather than later - to afford the new boss ample time to work with the squad ahead of their next league game in a fortnight's time.

Those two additions should add least serve to spark some optimism into this evermore bleak campaign. They need more, too, more creativity and more ideas.

Whitehead speaks well and his post-match analysis is pretty bang on the money, but under no circumstances should he be afforded the keys to this vehicle, which wouldn't pass as MOT in its current state. The responsibility of hauling this club out of its current quagmire cannot fall on another rookie.

Cardiff need a manager with experience in getting teams out of this situation. Or at least someone with any experience at all, unlike Whitehead, or Mark Hudson and Steve Morison before him.

The financially ruinous drop to League One is unthinkable. And there is no guarantee that Cardiff would bounce back up straight away if that happened, either. Bigger clubs have been sucked into the third tier and endured almighty battles to get out of its grasp in recent years.

The current Cardiff squad is far better than it has been showing, we keep banging that drum but it is true. The summer transfer window was largely decent, striker additions aside. It is surely a mid-table Championship club and there should be any number of managers out there able to get a tune out of them, especially with a few attacking additions over the coming week.

"Those boys in there, they're out on their feet," Whitehead said after the Millwall loss. "They've given everything. Now we need some help. We need some help at the top end of the pitch and fresh bodies, some fresh impetus, just to give them a lift.

"And the support and everyone at the football club."

I do not blame Hudson or whitehead having a go its not totally their fault a job no one will turn down with no experience but they try just need more experience as an assistant.

We need now an experience manager and there is a chance to get up the table then maybe players will get confidence as at present they looked doomed.

Colwill should be playing after forest and QPR away last season he should have kept his place why he was not i cannot see why he was not.

Experience manager in now we have 3 weeks now the Luton game is postponed and we got a chance otherwise MR Tan you are taking our club to league 1 and your club is worth far less and you will lose far more money and of course the supporters will hate you more.

I totally agree with you, not their faults at all, as you saw even Dai Hunt would take the job.

But we need experience and Tan does not seem to want that lately.
Just cheap and inexperienced.

Even Wez agreed with me on that.

Well

Nothing will happen because no one (from the board) cares enough for the club to turn up to games.
Protests only work if it is big enough to make a change like when the club changed badge and kit colours.
Other than protests i guess the other ways to get there notice is simply getting less seats filled at home games.
I think the less seats filled the more chance anything will happen because delmin and/or choo will be at least a handful of games and if we get less than 10 thousand then we can get the ball rolling.

But I guess relegation will help get rid of the owner and board.

The very fabric of the club is disintegrating at a fast rate of knots. The whole structure of the club is with one man, Tan and whilst he trys to make autonomous decisions from the other side of the world without the knowledge and appropriate experience, he is still vital to the club through his ongoing finance being injected into the operation. there lies to problem we are deviled with him and deviled without him. By many of his actions he is sinking into an ever deepening hole which is costing him more and more and by those self same actions the whole club is going down the same hole. I do think that the actions of some managers over his tenure have thrown a lot of money down that hole and it has clouded his judgement to the point where we now find ourselves.

As fans we see it first hand on a daily basis and we care for the club, we hold Season ticket memberships not there as customers, so Mr Tan please wake up and smell the coffee you have two options to consider for your own sake:

1. Sell your interest in the club to someone who can inject energy and investment in the club and cut your losses.
2. Employ some key people at the club to be able to offer positive management at all levels and most importantly take notice of what they say.

I have Ken Choo's email address and I will forward this piece, I dont know if that will have any impact but it will make me feel better

Good post, and exactly the way I see it. The seeds of self destruction were sown three or four seasons ago, and what we have now is a lower Division one team, and management. Performances on the field this season ratify this; we are now simply a club out of our league,,, with one single autocratic owner who, quite frankly, hasn't got a clue when it comes to running a professional football club.

Is it too late to salvage this season, Im afraid that it is. Who, or what decent manager worth his salt, would want to manage our club, under the current circumstances, along with the restraints, and conditions, that VT would impose?

If Mr. Tan’s Plan at the start of the season was to:
1. Ensure relegation.
2. Destroy the reputation of the Club.
3. Break the hearts of 30,000+ loyal supporters.
Then that plan is succeeding admirably!

Unfortunatly fans views are a long way from mr tans mind he will say how it all pans out
new manager or not signings or not
if we stay up or go down

if not one person turned upto a game apart from the stewards it still is tans call but the idea that you should not antagonize him is redicioulous like some fans have hinted at
by not protesting you will rub him up the wrong way

Well its gone beyond that point
I felt that a month or so ago when he replied with a sarcastic remark to a question put forward to him
if you have a rich welshman billionare who would like to buy the club off me
In other words f.ck off its my decision.

Sadly, he's not wrong on the last bit, is he...?

There are Welsh £billionaires, like Sir Terry Matthews, but he simply wouldn't be interested and I can't think of any others who would?

The current situation is 100% not good but it can be turned around with a little contrition from the owner and that would start by installing a capable/proven Championship manager/coach

The situation is not great but it is retrievable with the right decisions in the next few days :ayatollah:

I agree this whole dampener on the club which has started from the top could be turned around with a good new manager and three or four decent frees or loans. At least it gives us a fighting chance.

This current situation as it is however just cannot continue, but Tan will ensure it does. How often have we said 'All we need is...'. The fans, the pundits, the media, the players can all see the dire embarrassment our club is in, but Tan is not interested.

Ive seen the depths of League 2, when it was expected that we would be rubbish. I maintain now, 2022/23 IS the worst I have ever seen in terms of team spirit, effort, enthusiasm, in terms of excitement, in terms of togetherness, in terms of fight, in terms of lack of leadership on the pitch, in the dug outs or in the boardroom.

I tend to agree with you, although I reckon the first person wanting Tan out is Tan, but apparently, he wants £100 million first, so unless that's happening we are stuck with him.

Without reliving the discussions of a year ago, the chances of a first-time manager doing anything at the championship is remote. I believe most of us oldies understand that, but the thrill of so many new players overpowers logic and you start the season believing and trying to piece any good things as evidence. You can be workman-like but need quality up top to turn 1 point into 3 or losses into draws and it's clear we don't have it. Couple that with no set play game, rookie managers, and an interfering owner and it's clear we are shagged.

It really is a poor experience at the moment. I have been through a few relegations and it galvanized the fans, I don't really care at the moment, it's total apathy from top to bottom.

Vinny has to change things or sell for less than he wants if there are potential serious buyers out there.

Wasn't that just another Daya windup for his comic virtual newspaper?

If it were true why would a 72 year old (David Sullivan) want all the stress of running a football club ?

I believe that football has finally eaten itself and is going to fall apart soon. The mega clubs have debts of small countries or are bankrolled by dodgy countries, its such an unfair, unlevel playing field even "normal billionaires" are being priced out. Why bother ? Did we make any money from two visits to the premier league ? Its only the thought of a super league that keeps the big money men happy, so it will have to happen soon, then what, a pre-premier league (sky) first division?

I don't think Vinny get the money he wants, so we are stuck with him.
