" My thoughts on a painful day "

Sat Apr 01, 2023 5:01 pm

Don't really know what to say apart from that was painful. Stayed in the stadium 15 minutes after full time out of shock and disappointment.

Still can't quite believe it now. Having a couple of pints in town before heading back.

On the game, we were poor first half and a bit better second half. But our attacking play wasn't good enough really.

A very hurtful day and it'll take a while to get over it. Feels worse than the 4-0 last season.

Not sure the referee helped us but that's not really an excuse.

Something wasn't right for part of the first half. It felt like we had a man off, but we made changes and we were better for a period

The biggest shock was we got back to 2-2. The jacks are no great shakes they just do the basics right pass pass progress up the field us we so slow and laboured and no sure of the system were supposed to be playing

Ref was weak to both sides. What cost is was sloppy defending and a cheap free kick.

Definitely hurts more than the 4-0 to me. Like been said they aren't a good team, nothing special at all and shaky at the back. At least we were in the game this time.
Disappointed, upset and hurt atm but will be back as usual Easter Monday. Unlike the other extra 14k who we won't see until next season.

A very painful day with the reality hitting me hard that I cannot hold back anymore.

All season I have doubt our squad. From Morisons play it from the back which to me never look like it was going to work, from Hudsons back to basics which showed that our squad was not up to that standard neither, to Lamouchi who is a decent manager but even he is not going to save us with this squad.

This squad is just simple not good enough and I can't remember a season where we have made so many mistakes. For crying out loud we can't even score a penalty. I'm praying for a miracle we survive because that is all we can do.

Yeah I'll be there against Sunderland, Stoke and Huddersfield. I'll also be there next season, whatever division we're in.

Not something those extra "fans" today can say.

Good points here.

Our only hope is there are worse teams than us. For a bit I thought there were but now I'm not sure.

Pissed me off listening to them moaning. Don't think they had any right too after one game of the season. If they been before they would know what to expect

Spot on mate. Plenty in Canton who sounded like they hadn't watched us all season.

I totally agree with you BA. We lack quality right through the squad, too many basic errors all the time, errors that cost us goals and games all the time. No creativity, or basic footballing skills. Simply not good enough for the Championship...? This City team would struggle in the 1st div.

I like Sabri but thought he done wrong in bringing Wickham on to partner Kaba,it should have been Isaac Davies to chase down their defenders who started to look like they could get flustered if harassed.
But in Sabri I trust :bluescarf:

Wickham did a job but had no one to play off at times, also think lossing O'Dowda really hurt us, we lost all agency down the left.

If we have Kaba and Wicks up front we need Philo or Ojo behind them imo

We need to adjust the balance in the team next season. Our strikers are all similar, midfield mostly similar, same for our defence.

We don't really have a ball running mid we have to rely on Ojo or Philo etc

Sabri got this wrong

I can understand that Sabri in such a short tenure hasn't trusted Colwill, Davies and appears to have made up his mind on Harris but Ojo is a shocking player. He has lived off being bought and retained for the U23 squad of Liverpool but when has he ever been our best player for 90 mins, just goes missing and jogs around, nearly getting there, nearly putting a decent cross in, nearly hits a decent shot

Today we needed pace closer to Kaba; he is not a target man it comes off his shoulder, arse or generally totally misjudges the flight so bad it goes over his head, we needed a chaser in Davies or put him out wide and have Philogene on the ball in the middle

This was never a game for Saywers, it was always going to bit a bit frantic, we lost the midfield battle in the second half

We are in trouble

Couldn't believe that we gave them so much time on the ball in the first half. Surely the best idea would have been to put pressure on them playing out from the back? Never happened.

Disappointed that having worked so hard to equalize so close to the end we than hardly touched the ball for the remainder of the game and gave that prick of a referee every chance to award free kicks to Swansea.

As a squad we are clearly extremely unfit. Kaba and Philogene blowing out of their arses with ten minutes to go meaning we had no chance of getting up the attacking end of the pitch in the last ten minutes. It's not as if they spent all afternoon putting the defenders under pressure either. Wickham looked knackered within two minutes of coming on the pitch.

Does our goalkeeper actually ever make any saves? Beaten too easily for the first goal, feeble attempt for the second and nowhere near the rebound shot that hit the post for the third.

We've been spoilt with keepers in recent seasons but I honestly can't say that Allsop has had any game this season where he has made a major contribution to us winning or drawing a match.

I’ll be there for Sunderland match, tickets already brought. Shift pattern has changed making Saturdays awkward again.

As for next season, I’ll get to as many games as possible regardless of which league we’re in

I watched Keith Stroud's game/performance today, and, taking away my Cardiff bias, I thought he had a good game up to about 80 minutes.

Missed a clear pen on Kaba for a shirt pull, and then for the last 10 mins of normal play and extra time became a bit of a fussy 'away' ref, where things he had let go all game were suddenly penalised.

I dont think it was a bad performance from him.

Should he have dealt with, or at least had a word or three with the Swans bench for clearing en masse and racing across the entire width of the pitch when they scored? Whilst you need to take into account the added passion a derby game brings, getting all the subs, non used subs, non playing squad players, backroom staff off the pitch took far to long.

You should have been on our bus back to port talbot never seen our lads so low there are times when I wish port talbot was twenty five miles closer to Cardiff on reflection Swansea where the better side got no problem with that but I thought we where going to get the draw
