UPDATED: BANNED

Fri Apr 07, 2023 8:54 am

Well this week my boy got a letter from the club Banning him for 5 games !!! He said it was for racial chanting at the Rotherham game ,”cheating English barstools “ was the chant .

The police officer called him over after the game and told him he’d seen him chanting ! Took his photo and said he’d get a ban .

My boy said what about the other 100 chanting ? Did anybody else get a ban ? He is 16 and has travelled all over the country this season following the beloved bluebirds . He’s gone to Blackpool this morning absolutely gutted as it could be his last away for a while.

That’s my rant over . Thanks ps we all know who the police officer was .

That's disgraceful, you'd think the police have stopped serious crime and now have nothing better to do.

I was talking to a lad who just put his fingers up at Norwich away when they scored he got a 5 match ban Swansea, Blackpool game etc.

It’s funny away fans come to us and taunt for 90 mins but the police only put the cameras on our fans , then away games two spotters take our fans name then get them a letter sent out.

They are obsessed with banning our own fans.

This lad was 18 a few months ago.

Ban the hole stadium then against Swansea for the at 10 years old song.
Songs are offensive but thats football banter isnt it.
We all threw songs at each other on sunday most where offensive. We had a friend who is unfortunate to be a jack sending text messages during the game .
It just football rivalry.
Next day after the game we all mates again well sort of .
Thats what football is

Re: ‘ Banned ‘

That's disgusting. It's lazy policing and just fills his report out ro make him look like he's done something.

Many of us in 117 have noted how stewards, one in particular, are constantly targeting youngsters who are doing absolutely no harm at all. They don't target adults, only the kids (no surprise there) and seem to have been instructed to kill off any atmosphere created there, as close to the away fans. They've been challenged about this a few times as pathetic and backed off. This isn't a pop at all stewards BTW, most are fine, it's a minority that get a kick out of the their little bit of power to make up for their otherwise sad little lives.

It would be interesting to know what action was taken against the jack who was in the red seats on Saturday, surely a public order offence there .

The PC (excuse the non-deliberate pun) group are cleansing football in the way they are cleansing society...

Modernly, you cannot cause offence even if the person it's aimed at is 'okay' with it but someone totally unattached sees/hears it and decides it may (not necessarily will) cause offence to others...

The world is going mad and you'll soon see a game where no goals are score 'just in case' it offends the opposition... :laughing6:

Great post Chris. The country is currently full of people who like to complain on behalf of those who they think need ‘sticking up for’ even if these people aren’t bothered.

So the club is banning your son without hearing his side of the story? He has travelled 400 miles there and back for a game that was abandoned and that's how the club treat him. If it happened to me or my son they wont need to ban me. I wouldn't set foot in the ground again. The club doesn't deserve your sons support.

Re: ‘ Banned ‘

Agree with the other replies, doesn't seem right.

As the OP said, this supporter wouldn't have been the only one shouting that so it appears they've been chosen out because they're not an adult and seen as an easy target.

Others have rightly pointed out that at our own stadium, away fans are treated like royalty but in certain parts of home areas fans aren't treated in the same way. I stand in Canton but I've heard stories about those is 117 that are treated badly.

There are several reports of fans who have been banned for a few games for things that really don't warrant a ban.

Re: ‘ Banned ‘

Do civil bans go on any sort of record that would come up on a background check should people be looking for jobs etc ?

If so that’s quite serious it might be worth collectively making formal complaints about the police. I can’t see how they justify banning orders like this for kids on minor offences and I’d assume that higher up there may be some more sensible people who will give those handing out bans a kick up the arse regarding their power tripping

Re: ‘ Banned ‘

It can't be for "racist" chanting as nationality eg English/ Welsh is not defined as a different racial /ethnic group??.

Should apply to the players also.. Ashley Barnes just yelled F-Off to the lino at Boro.. a terrible example to set on national tv, what’s the difference?

It's a fair point. Not that it bothers me but how many times have those of us who sit in 117 seen players, even entire squads, gesturing to the home fans after a win after they run over to their fans? Don't see the fuzz or stewards tackling that if in their world its anti-social/incites violence/causes offence or whatever. Seems to me like its lazy tick-box PC policing and going for easy targets to fill their reports to tackle problems that don't exist which actually fuels real resentment. As someone said above, someone higher up needs to get a handle on this and kick their idiotic subordinates up the arse for being arseholes.

Sounds like its a time for us fans to come together, fund this case, get our win and use it for further cases. If we win that will make the police think.

It’s only a club ban so therefore a Civil matter?

It’s like sneaking into a nightclub or pub your banned from - it’s security’s job to stop you not a legally enforcing one.

Police don’t have the evidence or resources for proper bans so they just write to the club who take anything as gospel

Pretty sure that a 16 year old doesn’t need to be giving police there details either

Seems like a common pattern with SWP recently

I think that's spot on in terms of youngsters not having to give police their details. I guess they may have to if they getting a caution etc but in the OP's case, it seems that the cop just got the club to issue a ban, so not criminal offence, hence no apparent legal reason to give your details. This stuff bothers me as it's all a result of lazy policing and stewarding and could actually end up with a youngster or parent getting a criminal record in the heat of the moment, certain types of cops and stewards know this and use it as a prompt for an easy collar.

Many of us have seen how the youngsters are increasingly being targeted in 117, with a few being manhandled out which I think may escalate at some point as certain stewards should not be laying hands on them as not necessary.

You are correct on the treatment of the youngsters in 117/118 by a certain element amongst our usually great Stewards and we've both witnessed it, although we can't comment on the specific case above...

A quick check shows that legally there is no age restriction on whether the police can ask someone to stop and account for themselves

If the police suspect you of committing an offence they must inform you of the general nature of the offence believed to have been committed.

If asked to do so, you must give your name, address, date and place of birth and nationality to the officer.

You may also be asked for an explanation of your behaviour. If you give false information or refuse to answer, you are committing an offence for which you could be arrested and charged.

If you have been asked to stay with the police while they check the information you have provided you must do so. If you don't, this is an offence for which you could be charged.

The police can use reasonable force to keep you there for questioning. If you feel that unreasonable or excessive force was used, you can make a complaint.

If they do want to ask you more questions they can ask you to attend voluntarily at the police station to help with enquiries, or
arrest you and hold you in custody for up to 24 hours.

Thanks Chris. So it appears that the police can do what they want to get your details and all they have to do is say your committing an anti social offence. And not giving or refusing to give your details is also an offence. Only one winner there then.
