Eli King

By Glen Williams

The defensive midfielder was given the captain’s armband for Tuesday’s game as he looked to re-stake a claim for a first-team spot.

King spent the first half of the season on loan at League Two side Crewe who sent him back to the Bluebirds, making 18 appearances before returning to the Bluebirds for the second half of the campaign. King is yet to play for the Bluebirds under Lamouchi, last appearing for the first team in the EFL Cup defeat by Portsmouth in August.

King 21 years old this year has made 4 appearances for the Bluebirds.

Given the Bluebirds' precarious league position, it’s unlikely King will see any game time between now and the end of the season but the Wales youth international showed with his performance for the under-21s that he’s certainly one for the future.

The spell playing competitive league 2 football at Crewe would have done King the world of good, proving he’s capable of playing in the EFL at just 20. A good end to the season with Purse’s young Bluebirds will help King to stake a claim for a first team spot next season.

U18, a season in the u23's then onto conference or L2 for the season.

Over-facing them sends them backward, we have messed up Colwill and Davies and now their careers are still in limbo.

We still have no idea if any of them are any good. They need a full season, look at the improvement in Philogene, now Villa know what they have, but after a half a dozen games I thought he wouldn't make it, how wrong was I

When it wasn't happening at Crew he should have dropped into the conference

Looks like the penny is dropping with Evans at Torquay, but looked shaky early doors

Not sure where you're coming from...?

I've watched Eli King and I think he can become a regular in the side... :ayatollah:

That's 2 youngsters that have been given a write up in the last 2 weeks. I can't remember the other one I think it was Xavier Benjamin

Nothing against the lads because I haven't seen them play (King one or two times) but is this a case of trying to big up a few of the youngsters before the start of next season because we'll be seeing a lot more of them?

Genuine thought

I’ve seen King play many times. Last season he was excellent toward the end of the season and in pre season he also did well.
His loan started promisingly but fell away, partly because Crewe were in turmoil.

He’s got a decent future in front of him and we should keep him and if we are safe then use him in the last few games.

At his and their ages they should by now be at least in the Championship match day squads or on the bench if they are Championship Quality.

If the now 14 players that were all going to make it as a Championship player, NOT one starts and none for any other Championship club since they’ve left etc.

They can look good at U21’s, I watch all the games mostly against lower league teams.
But the step is massive.

I am still hopeful for Colwill and his brother.

Davies maybe , but not as a striker. 34 games / 2 goals

I would give King another season …along with Bagan and Davies who isn’t a centre forward and needs to be out wide to use his pace .
Colwill I rate highly but maybe needs to go elsewhere to fulfil his potential as something isn’t right …always seems to be injured or having a niggle ..

I agree, particularly about the Colwills.

The one I’m surprised about is Denham. I thought he looked a real prospect at centre back but he’s disappeared. I know he was injured but that was at the start of the season, was it that bad ?

He’s been available now for a long time.

I just think the media are continually hyping up these players and for me that does not help them at all.

Your lucky if one player makes it a season, Our board demanded 12, it was never going to happen.

Yep, I would love to know what the situation is with Denham though. Didn’t look out of place against Liverpool and did well whenever given the chance apart from one away game (can’t remember who !) when he was out jumped for a goal against us. I think for defenders we need to be more patient.
