Ex Cardiff City Manager Neil Harris:

Sun Apr 09, 2023 6:31 am

Neil Harris is not at all doing well since he was sacked by Cardiff City:

Manager of Gillingham:

Harris went down with Gillingham last season from League 1 to League 2.

This season in League 2 Gillingham are 19th in the League.

Well I thought with him as manager it will be the start of our transition away from the hoof ball. I believed he had to the squad to do that as well. He managed to get it across the start line and over the first hurdle but the second hurdle, play off, he just fell short. Problem was he was not allowed to bring in others to fill the obvious gaps. Those gaps were to bring in others to replace our aging squad.

Agree, we were going well but he needed backing !!

They were marooned to the bottom at Xmas then new owners came in and he seems to have made them safe. Currently second in the division 2 form table. I think he is a decent lower league manager. Did his best at City but just too big a job.

Its not Neil Harris nor Morrison or Hudson its thew situation we place them under that irks

Harris at least got a promotion from League 1 with a Championship yoyo club that he is a cult hero at. He was sacked by that club in the Championship, not exactly great form from what should then have been a step up. Morison was plain insane, as was Hudson.

Some big names like a Lampard, Rooney and Gerrard get gifted jobs too early and its over before it even starts. They need to do their time and learn stuff. They are managers not footballers now, its difficult. If it wasn't, we'd all have a crack.

Harris may be a League 1/League 2 manager but even Pep would struggle without the basic tools. I think he understands how to get things to happen at that level with the players and facilities available.

There are definitely fashions in football but in my opinion there are managers/head coaches who work better at a certain level. Warnock knows the championship, for instance, so why doesn't he get the Premier League? Perhaps his game plan and management style doesn't work on those type of players and the same may apply to Harris.

Disagree he was backed fairly well, brought in Moore for what £2m? And Wilson wages on loan

And thar has been the life of Vincent Tan.

He invested, in this case Moore and Wilson, but need to invest to fill the gap. He did exactly the same Malky but refused to support him in the January. The same happened with Harris.

If I recall correctly we had a pretty strong squad that season with no glaring weaknesses. Got us to the playoffs the season before and we’d only lost NML, who we replaced with both Ojo and Wilson. Invested a few million in a number 9 Moore to go alongside our other £5m striker Glatzel.

Needed to replace Peltier in January so we spent £350k on Ng.

Spent money on Watters who was banging it in in league 2, ok not much money and it didn’t work out but money was spent.

Were you calling for Harris to be backed further whilst on a run of 6 defeats in 7?

Seems like another unfair attempt to bash Tan when there’s other things that he can actually be bashed for

Another unfair attempt. Just look where we are now compared to then.

Now we are in the real poo lets see what Tan does to pull us out of all this.

Don’t disagree that he’s largely to blame for where we are now having expected Morison to replace, what 12 or so departures almost exclusively on frees?

Just think it’s a bit unfair to have blamed him for what went wrong under Harris when he had been fairly reasonably backed
