“ Rubin Colwill “

Colwill absence explained

Rubin Colwill missed the defeat by Sunderland due to a hip injury after his brief cameo against Blackpool.

It's been a torrid season for injuries for the young Wales international and just when he appeared to be building up some momentum, with decent outings against Swansea City and Blackpool, he appears to have suffered another setback.

Lamouchi said of Colwill: “After 20 minutes in Blackpool he felt some pain in the left hip and he didn’t train. He told me he wasn’t ready for the game."

Asked if it was serious, replied: “Not sure, he was not with us today."

It's been a hugely frustrating season for Colwill, who was earmarked as an important part of this squad at the beginning of the campaign. He has started only three league matches, surprisingly, the same number as Gavin Whyte.

Sadly, the lad seems to have problems one way or another. He’s not broken through under 4 managers now. Puts me in mind of Darren Anderton who ended up with the tag of Sicknote. And has shades of our previous “Confidence player” Murphy.
Hope he comes out of this, as he clearly has an abundance of talent.
But Lamouchi’s reply sounds like he’s lost interest in him too.

I’m a big fan of Colwill but you do start to wonder whether there is either a physical ongoing problem or mental issue.

He has all the talent in the world but just can’t seem to string a run of availability together and you can’t blame Lamouchi for planning without him.

I really hope Colwill can turn this around but I am starting to get a bit worried about him not being available because of “small” injuries.

Yeah, always seems to be injured.

Some people also have a blind opinion of him because he's from the academy.

My honest opinion is that, although he has the odd flashes of brilliance, he's nowhere near consistent enough to be successful.

Has the talent but will end up a lower league player I feel .

The coaching & management have a huge part to play in this. He's not an isolated case of a handful of prospects who haven't cut it (and all look shot and ready to get cut).

The difference with Colwill is that when he does get a rare run of fitness he looks a talent but, unfortunately, that level of fitness was been really rare.

What is concerning is that Lamouchi seemed to allude that it was Colwill telling him that he didn’t feel “right” for the last game rather than the medical team.

Maybe Colwill just needs to understand that, as a professional sportsman, you rarely feel 100%.

Exactly, so who's been in his ear? If he was Roy Keanes apprentice, would he be the same Rubin Colwill? I'm not so sure.

Some good points above and I suspect it is a combination of several of them...

Rubin Colwill was thrusted into the limelight maybe a little too early for his own good but for me he made a great start, scoring that wonderful goal versus Liverpool at Anfield before tailing off with his 'growing' issues (of which I have no doubt he was suffering)

Since then, it's been a seemingly never ending series of 'stop/start' situations and I do get the impression that successive managers have been a little perplexed by him

However, I remain convinced he has the ability to make himself a regular in our first team and he has the skill/attrubutes to do that

The current question is 'Does he have the mentality?'

Sadly, that remains to be seen just at a time where he could have made a difference...

Sven, I think he needs an "easy" loan somewhere. Give him to Wrexham for 6 months in league 2, make him the star man and he comes back to us well oiled.

If we are in League One he will just have to buck up and be one of the main men.

My thoughts in an absolute nutshell.

We are still unsure what his position is, but we know he has great close control and technique.

Watching Arsenal and Citeh it appears the idea of a single position is old school. If i was Rubes I'd get out of this madhouse ASAP and find myself a manager with different ideas

He needs to demand the ball and be trusted to be the main man, not worry about the defensive formation. He needs to be our Martin Ødegaard, go get the ball, travel with it or pass it.
But he needs to get himself fit, very fit which i don't think he has ever and that maybe his problem

Body clearly still growing etc.
Couldn’t believe how slim he looked on his last appearance given he’s always looked a bit tall and stocky.

We haven’t really “missed” him in the sense he hasn’t really been a mainstay of the starting 11 yet.

Personally I’d loan him out to league 2 for a year where he will more often than not be the best player on the pitch, which will hopefully not only improve his confidence but also toughen him up as he becomes the danger man the opposition targets

If Wrexham want a Welsh international when they go up send him there, let him get a taste of the adoration he could get if he applies himself

That's not looking so nailed on at the moment with one loss & a draw in the last 3 they're not exactly flying like they were but they still have that game in hand.

They'll be fine, the win over Notts County more or less sealed it. Win tomorrow and on Saturday, promotion will be confirmed.
