The Opposition's Manager - Chris Wilder

Wilder was appointed Hornets boss in March. Recently there was speculation he'd be sacked already, but Watford denied this in a statement.

Before that, he had an unsuccessful spell at Middlesbrough until October last year.

He's best known for his spell in charge of his boyhood club Sheffield United between May 2016 and March 2021. In that time, he got them promoted twice - once from League One and once from the Championship.

Previously he had spells at Oxford, where he got them promoted from what is now known as the National League in the play-offs, and Northampton where he won the League Two title whilst under severe financial constraints.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Ismaila Sarr has previously been courted by Premier League clubs. He has nine goals and seven assists in the league this season.

Joao Pedro has eleven league goals.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Earnshaw said: "It is really, really tough. I look at Watford next, that's a must-win. Stoke is a must-win, Rotherham is a must-win, then Huddersfield.

"Burnley is going to be the toughest one - but every game is now a must-win.

"I believe they will stay up. If they perform like this (against Sheffield United), which was way better than last weekend, then they give themselves a chance.

"They are making it so, so difficult. It's been a really bad year for them."

A Point would be a good result - And avoid defeats with large goal difference in these remain games .
It's worth an extra point = Goal Difference ;)

Sory Kaba is one goal away from matching top scorer Callum Robinson’s tally of seven goals with the Irish international not expected to feature for the rest of the season.

Bluebirds boss Lamouchi may also have to select his team without being able to call upon Jaden Philogene, who has started the last nine games.

Defender Jack Simpson is also being assessed.

Rubin Colwill has not featured in the last two matchday squads after feeling a problem in his hip against Blackpool. Lamouchi says the young Welshman has missed training.

Cardiff’s Sabri Lamouchi said:

“We go again tonight against probably the best squad in the league in Watford. We will do our best to get a positive result, come back and focus immediately on Stoke City.

"It'll be tough. We're aiming for maximum points. We know why we must give our best. The club deserves to stay in the Championship and I know the players will do everything they can for that.

“I have a fantastic group. I'm surprised to find this group, with this quality, in this situation. We are where we are. We need to fight with this and be determined to get out of this situation. The club have a very important community.”

Watford’s Chris Wilder said:

“I’m looking for us to get another performance under our belts on Wednesday, but we know it won’t be easy. Cardiff have a lot to play for, so it’s a good test for us to try and back up today.”

Joao Pedro tries a lofted ball over the top of City's defence for Keinan Davis - but there's too much on it. A goal kick.

A poor first touch there from Etete gifts the ball to Watford. Kone tries to release Sarr down the channel, but O'Dowda does well enough to shepherd the ball out.

More sloppiness from Cardiff. They threaten to break but Kaba badly underhits a pass to Romeo.

GOAL! Watford 1-0 Cardiff City (Sarr 11)
City behind. Deservedly so.

Way too easy for Watford, we've started awful.. given them way too much possession and no pressure

That didn’t take long, 1-0 already.

Great defending boys. Ffs.

What the f**k is Bamba doing?

People were quick to slag Hudson off. Defence has gone backwards a million steps!!

GOAL! Watford 1-0 Cardiff City (Sarr 11)
City behind. Deservedly so.

All stemmed from Kaba gifting the ball away and then Watford play through Cardiff like they aren't even there. A lofted ball from Louza to the back post is headed back across goal and Sarr has the easiest tap-in you are ever likely to see

Bamba needs sacking NOW the defence has been worse since he took over.
