3 more points will be enough

Wed Apr 19, 2023 8:57 pm

Firstly, what a great result for the city tonight, at last they've shown some fight and scored some good goals. In my opinion if we get to 48 points that will be enough. So let's put this nightmare season to bed and get there on saturday by beating stoke.

Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait long for Safety. The side battled heroically and isn’t even our storm attacking line up.

Not sure about that.

Reading have definitely improved since Ince left and there will be a few twists and turns yet.

I reckon we need two more wins to be certain.

Reading have Coventry away on Saturday. If we win and they lose, we'll be five clear with them only having two games left. We'll also have that game in hand at Rotherham.

The win tonight looks massive.

I think over the last 5-6 years 44 points have kept you up. When was the last time someone went down with 48 points ????

Plus Reading have to play Hoodarsefield last game of season- only one team can win there, or a draw, they can't both get 3 points

That fact also means Stoke are now safe. Hope that helps us but who knows.

Andy Carroll got sent off tonight so Reading will be without him
He is always a threat at this level

I looked at the drop stats for the last 7 seasons a while back and it was looking like 48-50 would get you over the line this season. I'd say Stoke are on currently the support level of 52 so I reckon two wins or even 5 pts will see us OK.

A 50% win rate is still a tough ask from our 4 games and to be mathematically safe we now need 8 pts to put Reading out of reach from their potential 9pts to give us a 1 pt cushion and reach 53pts. Play like we did tonight and we will be fine but Saturday really again is a must win.

It's actually 6pts to reach 51pts.

For Reading to get 52pts they need to beat Huddersfield who can only then get 50pts.

Not sure on why you mention 51pts, I may not have been clear as it was late and I was happy!

My point is that as it stands, Reading can achieve 52pts if they win their 3 remaining games. For us to be mathematically safe at 53pts we need 8 from 12. But 51pts or 2 wins (6pts) would see us safe in reality.

Cant say that yet
we could lose the rest of our games and get relegated.
It's a simple cat and mouse situation.
If we could just get back to back wins then maybe but we are relying on reading to do poorly
which is never good thing. Reading should of won against Luton when they were leading 2-0
but andy carroll thought he was maradona with a handball goal which sent him off.
So ALOT will still need to be done in order to be safe but we are on the right path.
A much needed result and performance against watford.

51pts would see us safe DEFINITELY.

Reading and Huddersfield still have to play each other. They cannot both get 9pts from their last 3 games.

We win Saturday against Stoke, no reason why we can't, and Huddersfield/Rotherham fail to win then the whole situation changes with both those 2 teams needing to get a win against us. That might open the game for us in our advantage.

Huddersfield don't play this weekend as I think they were due to play Sheffield United. So their next game is the game with us. By then we would have played twice hopefully allowing a gap to develop and possibly forcing Huddersfield to chase the win.

Yeah just notice that. Sheff Utd are playing in the Semi Finals of the FA Cup.

That could suit Huddersfield now after a rest. We need to make sure we are safe by then.

Goal difference could come into play on the last game of the season-Puts aside.. We have a better GD than the sides below us. Burnley, I'd take a loss if our GD would keep us up. Let's hope it doesn't get us to that.. Bristol rovers last season?
