Have they got some players back from injury yet?
Way to stop what happened is EFL say both teams play same squad.

' Hole in the wall '

Lamouchi made only one change from the XI that beat Watford on the road, bringing in the more luxurious Romaine Sawyers for Andy Rinomhota.

Sawyers, Joe Ralls and Ryan Wintle were able to match Stoke's three-man midfield and City's backline proved competent enough to deal with the Potters' forwards.

But there was a hole in the wall. Every time Perry Ng pushed forward, the visitors looked for a ball over the top into the space that he left behind.

It is far from the first time in Lamouchi's tenure where the opposition have looked to catch the outside centre-halves off guard - fans will remember Joel Piroe doing Mark McGuinness with the same trick in this month's South Wales derby.

My View:

Its been the same for all Championship teams so far, all had to play six games in three weeks.

"We have a big squad, full of quality, the players just have to believe in themselves."

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

"We are all tired. Six games in three weeks, it's too much," the City boss said. "Both teams, we saw not a lot of energy, it's terrible for them."

Lamouchi admitted that he told his players he expected them to be better in the second half as they took time to find their intensity again.

Cardiff face Rotherham on Thursday after the original fixture was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch with 48 minutes played.

City top scorer Kaba seemed to be another player out of gas in the final minutes against Stoke and there are persistent doubts about the ability of senior players, like Ralls and Connor Wickham, to complete a full 90 minutes.

The decision not to start Philogene was "absolutely not" tactical, Lamouchi said, but the manager felt it was too risky to play the 21-year-old for the full duration.

Youngsters like Isaak Davies, an unused substitute, and Rubin Colwill, yet again absent from the matchday squad, look set to only play a bit-part role in the final three games, if at all. Lamouchi confirmed the squad will have a day off training to help their recovery after 90 minutes against Stoke.

What Sabri Lamouchi has said:

"We have three games to play and we will play to get maximum points until the end. We have an interesting game, a direct confrontation, behind. But we have one more game, a game against Rotherham on Thursday night."

"It'll be tough because we play eight o'clock on Thursday there and then 12 o'clock Sunday here. Huddersfield are waiting 10 days without a game.

"I prefer to be where I am, of course. We have three games to play and we need to think game by game and to try to get points. The points are so important, especially now."

THE RESULTS THAT MATTER:

Cardiff City 1-1 Stoke City

Birmingham City 0-1 Blackpool

Burnley 1-2 QPR

Coventry City 2-1 Reading

Wigan Athletic 2-1 Millwall

Bristol City 2-1 Rotherham United

Despite Wigan picking up a good win against Millwall, it's almost impossible for them to overtake Cardiff now, because they are six points behind them with only two games remaining and have a vastly inferior goal difference.

Blackpool are keeping themselves in with a shout, that's two wins out of three matches since Mick McCarthy's sacking. A 1-0 win over Birmingham City keeps tentative hopes alive for the division's 23rd-placed side. They, too, have only two matches remaining and are three points adrift of Huddersfield, the team occupying that final safe spot at the moment. Although the Terriers - like Cardiff and Rotherham - have a game in hand over the three sides in the relegation zone.

Reading struggled without their talisman Andy Carroll, who was serving a ban for a red card he picked up in their last game, and the Royals slumped to defeat at Coventry. It's not looking good for the Berkshire club, all things considered, with the team now having gone 11 games without a win as things begin to look ominous for them.

Cardiff gained a point on Rotherham and as a result moved level with them on 46 points. The Millers were hit with a sucker punch in the 91st minute as Andreas Weimann scored an injury-time winner for Bristol City. Rotherham are winless in five matches now and are still being hauled back into this relegation picture.

QPR, like Cardiff, took four points from their two games last week and took a major step forward towards safety. Chris Martin's 87th-minute strike sealed victory for the west London club over champions-elect Burnley in yet another surprising result against the top-placed club. It puts the R's four points above the drop zone now with two to play.

The Table:

18th - QPR - P 44 PTS 47

19th - Rotherham - P 43 PTS 46

20th - Cardiff - P43 PTS 46

21st - Huddersfield - P43 PTS 44

---

22nd - Reading - P44 PTS 43

23rd - Blackpool - P44 PTS 41

24th - Wigan - P44 PTS 40

Next rounds of fixtures
Thursday

Rotherham v Cardiff

Friday

Blackpool v Millwall

Saturday

Reading v Wigan

Stoke City v QPR

Rotherham United and Cardiff City try again on Thursday at the New York Stadium when the referee will be Oliver Langford from the West Midlands.

Oliver was in charge of this original game in March which was abandoned at half time and had been in the middle for three previous Millers games the last one being in this reverse fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium in October when a Jaden Philogene-Bidace goal gave the hosts all three points. He was also in charge of our August game at Deepdale when the Tuesday night game against Preston ended goalless and then for our game at Blackburn Rovers when the hosts ran out three-nil winners.

He has been in the middle for quite a few Rotherham games before this season one of those being in January 2022 when our visitors to the New York Stadium were Cheltenham Town when a twenty-fourth minute Michael Smith goal gave the Millers all three points. The time before that was in November 2020 at Loftus Road in the Championship. Ilias Chair put QPR in front with Michael Smith equalising only for Bright Osayi-Samuel struck to put the Hoops back in front in time added on in the first half followed a minute later by Mr Langford giving a penalty to the hosts which Lyndon Dykes duly put away. Freddie Ladapo made it a lively final five minutes making it three-two but that’s how the game finished.

Cardiff City will head to the rearranged Rotherham United tie with Connor Wickham and Rubin Colwill potentially available for selection, Sabri Lamouchi has said.

The Bluebirds were winning 1-0 against Rotherham last month when a downpour at half-time waterlogged the pitch, with the ground deemed unplayable in the 48th minute and the game subsequently rearranged.

Connor Wickham is 50-50 after making a quick record from his latest injury.

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

Connor Wickham is 50-50 after making a quick record from his latest injury.

Ryan Alsop will miss at least two of the last three games.

However, he confirmed that Ryan Allsop, who was taken off against Stoke City at the weekend after complaining of an adductor injury, will miss at least the next two games.

"I hope Connor Wickham will be available for training and for the game. As well as Rubin Colwill," Lamouchi said.

"The only problem we will face today is Ryan Allsop, the goalkeeper, he will not be available. He has had a lot of games, he knows better than me why he feels this pain. A lot of pressure and a lot of tension.

Rotherham United and Cardiff City play each other tomorrow at the New York Stadium in a game which sees both sides on forty-six points, the Millers a place above with a better goal difference.

The Millers have got four points from their three home games so far in April, the last being a two-all draw with promoted Burnley. Cardiff have won one and lost two of their April away games.

Cardiff come into this game on the back of a one-all draw at home to Stoke while the Millers lost away at Bristol City when City scored the winner in time added on.

Millers Manager, Matt Taylor told Radio Sheffield that the team need to start better than they did against Bristol City saying, ‘we have to give the opposition credit but I think we did well to stop in the game until half-time. We looked like we had a threat about us in the second half only to be hit by a real sickner at the end of the game. We aren’t going to dominate ninety minutes of any football game.’ Going on to talk about the Cardiff game, Matt said, ‘The football is the biggest thing on Thursday night and hopefully both sets of fans will understand that. We know what a good team we are up against and we’ve got to make sure we put our best foot forward on the night and put on a performance to be proud of. The bare bones of it is that it’s a game of football between to highly motivated teams.’

Wed Apr 26, 2023 11:22 pm

The Millers have a number of players nursing injuries and there is illness in the squad but Ollie Rathbone is a possible to start tomorrow and it’s hopeful that Viktor Johansson will be fit and between the sticks.

Speaking to their Official Site, Cardiff Manager Sabri Lamouchi said that the game is really important for both teams, but hopes the way the game was called off last month will ‘motivate’ his players. ‘It will be a tough game and I hope after it we will have more points that we do now. We have three games to play and we need to finish the job and have the minimum of three teams behind us. The players have shown me that they want to get points, they are united, and absolutely focused.’

City will be without goalkeeper Ryan Allsop with Jak Alnwick stepping in. The Bluebirds are hoping to have Connor Wickham and Rubin Colwell available.

As with the original game last month Oliver Langford as the whistle for this one.

Rotherham set for heavy rain

In predictable fashion, the New York Stadium looks set to be on the receiving end of heavy downpours for the duration of tonight’s match. Between 7pm and 8pm when the players will be warming up, the Met Office predicts a 60 per cent chance of heavy rain, with this rising to 90 per cent at kick off and lasting for the remainder of the game.
